Was wondering what size would be best for MX and some trail use? Any advantages/ disadvantages? thanks

8 inch rims are better for MX

9"
alot of racers started using 9" when itp came out with the 18x10-9 because they dont give as much as a 8" but there not as stiff as a 10"

so really either one is good to run. How about tire size and what kind of tire?

if your just gonna play around on mx and ride trails, i'd say go with a 20" tire on a 9 " rim. I run on all sorts of terrain, trails pits, tracks, dunes and i use 20x11-9 razors front and rear. they do good in everything and the fronts track awesome in sand compared to almost all other front tires besides sand tire fronts.
20" rears are one of the best all around tires IMHO
If your gonna race alot of mx then id say go with a 18 on a 9" rim because then you can get 20" tires later on if you ever start switching tires. Hopefully with dual beadlocks.
another advantage, and one of the reasons I went with a 9" is because they make alot of diff style tires in a 9"
