The other threads about music got me thinking. Who would you list as the top 10 musical groups/artists of all time. The influencial ones. I'm not looking to start an argument, I'm just curious about this subject.

Here's my list off the top of my head (no particular order):

1. The Beatles
2. The Rolling Stones
3. David Bowie
4. Elvis
5. Johnny Cash
6. Lynyrd Skynyrd
7. Metallica
8. AC/DC
9. Guns N Roses
10. The Who

10 spots is just not enough.

Good ranking, I would just put GNR closer to the top.

10.diturbed

Deernuts, I didn't really have them in any sort of order. Just a list. GNR is/was and awesome band. But, I would still probably keep The Beatles and The Stones in the top 2 spots.

this is how id make it

1 led
2 beatles

9 the stones
10 the doors

In no specific order,

Clapton or any band he's been in.
Beatles
Doors
the Clash
Buddy Holly
Led Zeppelin
Van Halen
Bruce Springsteen
The Who
Rolling Stones
Bob Dylan

That's more than 10, but I could put alot more in there. And while I know this is going to get some negative reactions, I think the Clash has had the most influence on any music that came after 1980, and may also be one of the most important bands of all time.

Guns n Roses
metallica
bon jovi(some songs)
and about everything else posted.... no particular order for me but GNR would be my number 1 pick, i think if the original band was still together they'd be the best around(like the old days)

there has been no mention of Black Sabbath...what is wrong with you people?

i'll give this a try though

Black Sabbath
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Metallica
Elvis
Tool
Soundgarden(give me these guys anyday over Nirvana)
Pearl Jam
Pantera
Johnny Cash

maybe reaching a bit with Pantera, but you can't argue that a lot of kids have picked up a guitar or beat the hell outta some drums after listening to them

(<- ask himself...Why can't people spell Zeppelin correctly?...there is an 'e' after 'pp' and before the 'lin')

1. The Beatles
2. The Who
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Buddy Holly and the Crickets
5. Black Sabbath
6. Elvis
7. Judas Priest
8. Nirvana
9. Cream
10. The Beach Boys

...but as WKY400ex stated, limiting this topic to ten bands is impossible!

Eric Clapton, The Doors, The Clash, Bob Dylan, Van Halen, and The Beach Boys deserve to be on my list too. Like I said earlier, limiting to 10 bands is so difficult.
