check your cam chain tensioner spring

Hotcam Stage 1's are known for the famous "ticking" sound on 400ex. Nothing to worry about unless it's really bad and loud ticking.

ya i did but i hav to do it agian cause i set it to what the manual says not the card that came with the cam. so its a bit off, but i hopes thats the only problem. the tensioner is fine.

that is probily your noise, granted the stage 1 and the stock cam there isnt really that much in size difference but there is a slighty difference. also something else that i would say to check is the amount of tension that is on the chain. if there isnt enough tension via the tensioner then you will hear some chain slap. on the tensioner did you take it out and twist it in and out with a screw driver? if it is broken then that little post will be all the way out like it is all right but once you start the quad then you might hear the slapping of the post.... diggit?

oooops forgot to finish the sentence on the tension on the chain if you havent replaced your chain and the chain has strenghed then that could be it

400ex's are infamous for the ticking...I went through three sets of valves, and tensioners, and all other related parts. Ticking is noticeable and still hasn't caused me a problem in the last two years.

I have a 426 with a stage 2 hot cam and more stuff but I'm not getting into that but anyways I just adjusted my valves again and mine tick to but thats just the way the hot cams recomend them. You could set them a bit tighter just to see if thats the ticking but I would put them back to there recommeded settings.
