has anyone thought of putting a xr 400 kickstart and xr 400 sidecase on a 400 ex?

Yes, people have though about it. Do you see anyone with one? The only way that you will see a kickstarter on an ex is to buy the newer model. sorry for the bad news. It is about the same as having reverse.

many have thought about it, but figured out it would be more work than it is worth, if it is even possible. An no, the new 400ex's do not have kickstartes.

My stock lasted almost 3 years :o If your going threw Batteries, you might have other issues with something else.

this is my race quad so the motor is completely done and everyone that i know that used to run the 400 es to the 440 had problems with their batteries i just looking at some specs on the xr and i thought that a guy could just switch cases and extend the shaft for the kick to miss the frame and it would be good

Uh ok... I too have a 440, still no battery problems

I guess it would be OK to have both, but I wouldnt want to use my race quad as an experiment to find out ;)

heard that .... that is one of the reasons i thought that i would through it out there to see what ppl would say, just looking at the microfic i looks like it would just be asimple switch, know what i mean. also i wouldn't think that you would have to change the wiring either since basically all a kickstarter is it like a bump start

You need the kick start shaft and all the gears that go in the motor which i think it would be really expensive to get it to work. You would prett much have to buy the insides of the dirtbike motor and totally convert the whole ex motor in to the xr motor.

Had a brain fade for a min, was thinking about the reverse issue. I had a 440 on mine and it was a 99 model. When I sold it last year it still had the orginial battery in it. If you are going though batteries, you have other problems. Do you still have the key switch? If you took it off maybe there is a drain of some kind.

yeah i still have the key switch that is about all that i have left of the handle bar electrical left eleimated the lights so i took that big ol glob switch off and converted to a switch button like a motorcycle . also as for the kick start response yeah i believe tha you would have to get the shaft and all the components to it so that it would turn over the motor but as for changing the ex to a xr i think that there the same thing arent they, maybe a smaller or taller gear in one or the other but other than that i think that they are same

I would think that you have something wrong if the battery goes dead about every 3 months. You need to go back and check all of the wires and make sure that there is no drain on the electric system. There has to be for the battery to go dead. Put a volt meter on the battery as it is running an see if it is charging.
