KTM. If you go dual sport KTM is the way to go IMO.

The Suzuki DR-Z400SM looks sick in my opinion...all black with black rims = tight work. :p

Next year after I get a car, I know with gas prices I'll be looking at a crf450, and the parts to make it street legal.

For the street you want wieght so it is stable at highway speed, for cruising. That makes the Kawi 650 KLR a great starter or the KTM 640 ADV or LC4. but the ultimate would be 950 LC8.

The honda xr650l and suki drz400 are more suited for trails.
Any dirt bike converted to street is still a dirt bike and will not ride right on the road. A f pile of fun just not a comuter.

The supermoto versions are a blast on the street but scary as hell on dirt. FRont brakes are huge, tires are street slicks.

Its tough, my call is The Kawi KLR 650
It's cheap, cheap to insure, nice to cruise dirt or pavment.
The KTM LC4 enduro is my dream dual sport.

I've been looking at a WR450. My buddy from Oregon had one (just sold it), and it was a sweet bike. Probably as close to an MX bike as you could get for the street.

I'm thinking of looking at the husky:D

a guy i know has a DR650 and he says it rips! and is alot of fun.

the honda xr650L is not liquid cooled.
the xr650R is, but you would have to spen some money to make the 650R legul

the DR & KLR are both liquid colled.

imo i would get the Zuki.

unless i wanted to spen the extra cash and make the 650R legul..

For a converted bike, mainly for dirt Honda xr650r, or a Yamaha Wr450.

For a bike mainly for street use, a Suzuki dr650, or the new supermoto 400.

For a mix of both, the regular drz400l. If you're retarded and like rebuilding your transmition, crank, ect then buy a crf. If you talk to honda about converting it they will even tell you not to do it. Go to thumpertalk.com and see why. This bike does not have the oil capacity, crank case venting or strong enough transmition gears for pavement pounding. Baja designs can hook you up, but it would end up costing you so much money it would not be worth your effort. And a uncorked XR650R would kick its but all day long as a dual sport bike.

Don't get me wrong, crfs are good dirt bikes. But they are not meant to be dual sport machines.
