View Full Version : My little girl broke her arm :(

About a week ago, my daughter was at my father's house, the same as almost every weekend. She spends lots of time there with her cousin to play together, they have a swing-set, a pool, a trampoline, horses, lots of fun stuff. She spends almost every weekend over there with her cousin.

She jumped off the slide, and I'm not sure if she slipped or what, but she landed on the ground stiff-armed. She said "it felt like my arm went into a hole".

She broke her arm above her elbow, and had to have surgery to put it back into place.

We're getting the pins out on Monday and the hard cast put on. I'll post the X-rays if I can get a hold of them...

Actually, the hardest part was holding her hand and looking in her eyes as they put her under. It was a pretty nasty break, they had to sedate her before they tried to set it.

Kids heal quick, at least my 2 boys do. In 6 months she won't even remember breaking it. I hope she has a speedy recovery. Now if only us old guys could heal as fast...

The pins are coming out this afternoon, and I think she's getting her hard cast on at the same time. I'll be sure to get some pics, and hopefully pics of the X-rays, too.

It's just a hairline fracture. Can anybody spot where it's broken?

They couldn't set it in place, turns out there was a muscle between the bones. They actually had to go through surgery, cut open the arm to set it.

Anytime they put you under, you gotta be hooked to all kinds of wires to monitor your vitals, even for hours after surgery because the drugs are still in your system.

Surgery scars. I hope they heal up well and don't scar too much. She's an awful pretty kid...

We were rather fortunate. The on-call Orthopedist is the doctor for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team. They don't just let any crack-pot have that position...

thats weird, the same thing happend to my nephew last year when he was 9yrs old, he was swinging real high then jumped off, when he landed his hand was facing backward to catch his fall and his bone broke in the same place as your daughters. his broke out and almost punctured the skin. i noticed it right away, but it took him a couple minutes for the pain to kick in and realize what he had done. i calmly put him in the truck and flew to the hospital. me and the wife were babysitting while his parents were down state. i wish her well...

bulkdriverlp thats what my friend did when we went skiing he hit a jump and landed with his arm backwards and had to be ambulanced to the hospital to get surgery on his arm. it was pretty funny/gross tho:p

wilkin may just do that, i found the comment very low classed and in very poor taste.

whatever, i didn't break any of the rules.. so ban me, then you'll just end up with more threads about people throwing their weight around

Ive had pins in my Elbow before .. no fun :(

ITs hard to see your kids when they get hurt, I had a VERY hard time when my lil man had to have tubes put in his ears when he was a baby, I had to hold him down while they sedated him and that was hard on Ole Mom :(

I would bet that about half of the people that get banned come back. Even if they ban your ip address, that can also be changed. This site is so addicting, I know if i got banned, I would do anything to be able to just see the site. It's so informative about the atv world it's crazy!!! I've learned so much. And I think pappy's reply's should be in their own section cause they're all really funny!!!!

That was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

There is an unwritten rule at ATVriders.com that the moderators, both new and old, have always enforced. We are not going to tolerate troublemakers, even if no official "rule" is broken. Serialthrlla's post was real low-class and in poor taste, and he's cause just enough trouble constantly skirting the edges of the rules. The site is better off without him.

If Pappy hadn't banned him last night, I would have banned him this morning for that comment.

I really didn't know the story behind this person. Troublemakers should not be tolerated. What I asked if you read it, was he got banned for that comment. If he has caused problems before and that was the straw that broke the camels back then that's all you had to say. I know what it's like to have a kid with a broken arm. My son broke his at the Penton GNCC race 3 years ago and required plates and screws. Then broke the same arm the following year and had to have the old plates removed and new longer ones installed. So I know first hand what it's like to have a kid in pain with a broken bone. I hope she heals fast and strong.
