I own a canon rebel xt. And taking harlens advice i bought a canon lens for it. He suggested the 70 - 210 i believe. Well i bought a 75 - 300. My question is just about when i should use the end cap that comes with it. Im not sure what its called exactly. Does this allow less light im (im assuming thats what it does) any help would be great.

And being on somewhat of a tight budget i could not afford the model with IS. So what are some of your techinques for keeping steady when shooting at longers distances.

if you are refering to the lens hood, it should be used everytime unless you are using the flash.

as far as steady shooting, hold the lens from underneath and tuck that arm close to your body.

the lens hood usually takes care of lens flare associated with light hitting the lens at an angle. on lenses where the glass is really close to the end of the lens body, the lens hood is usually larger or wider.

Yeah this hood is probobly about 2.5 inches deep and about the same across. Thanks for the help. I am headed out to the park to play with this thing with the GF. I will post some pics when i come back. Now if i only knew that macro switch did....lol

macro is used to allow the camera to focus on objects extremely close to the lens. usually a wide angle is used, or under 135mm.
