What Spindles Do I Need?

I HAVE A 87 250R THAT I AM CURRENTLY REBUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP. I HAVE ALL MY NEW SUSPENSION AND WANT TO POWDERCOAT MY FRAME AND A FEW OTHER PARTS. THE ONLY PARTS I AM WAITING FOR TO GET POWDERCOATED ARE MY SPINDLES. I HEAR THAT THE 400EX SPINDLES ARE THE WAY TO GO BUT I DONT KNOW WHERE TO GET THE ADAPTER PLATE FOR THE 250R CALIPERS. I HAVE LAEGER +2 A-ARMS WITH BALL JOINT FRONT END.

QUESTIONS? WHAT SPINDLES DO I GET?
WHAT ADAPTER PLATE?
WHERE DO I GET THE ADAPTER PLATE AND SPINDLES?
IF I USE THE 450R SPINDLES AND CALIPERS THE SPINDLES WILL MOUNT UP TO MY BALL JOINTS?
WILL I NEED NEW ROTORS AND HUBS?

450R spindles are the way to go. you can use 450R calipers on them, theres a writeup with instructions and parts needed in this 250R section sumwhere.

I have very little knowledge with the 250r's, but why not just use 250r spindles? Are they no longer available?

Because the 400ex, and 450r spindles are almost a direct bolt on, and are much stronger than 250r spindles.

I have raced my 89 spindles in desert races for 10 years and they have never broken or failed. I have not heard that from anybody else either.

Get in touch with a guy in Georgia his name is Norris Quinn I think that he still has some of the brake adaptors that you are looking for. I broke a spindle on my 250r and did the 400ex set up and it is worth it and very easy.

the adapters to use 250r brakes on 400ex spindles will cost u more then an entire new 450r front end setup.

main reason to switch is weight, 450r spindles r aluminum. theres nuthing wrong with 250r spindles, ive heard some say they are weeker then the new designs. and personally i hav bent a couple of 86 spindles...

The adapters to use 250R calipers on 400EX spindles are $200 for the set. The 400EX spindles are made from aluminium and are lighter but the single piston 400EX calipers a downgrade when compared to the 250R's.

Everything about the 450R brake setup is better since all of the parts are cheaper, lighter and are of the same quality as the 250R's or better.

If your not racing the 400 brakes work fine and are lighter, I bought a brand new set w/pads for $100 shipped. JR

I was going to that setup on my R......I have 400ex spindles and then buy 250EX hubs...they are the same hubs as a 400ex but are about 30 dollars a piece....instead of 50.....as for the adapters Walsh has them and Baldwin has them......the 450R setup I thought about it....but when you buy the front caliper you have to buy all the pieces...they aren't complete at least when I bought my stuff they weren't....
