just a reminder

after tearing down my engine i decided to take apart the oil tank/resivoir. guys do not forget to do this when you change your oil. where the bottom line disconnects, there is another filter that is inside the oil tank that must be cleaned. i pulled mine out and it was covered with fine shavings. so much that i know it limited the oil flow to the lower end. this would have cost me another engine. when rinsing it off water would barely pass through it. the owners manual says nothing of this filter.

That's a good reminder, thanks. I'll have to let my friend know about that, he just rebuilt his 2000 400EX and I'm sure that filter can't be looking good.

The service manual talks about it... There is also another filter inside the motor, but it doesn't need to be cleaned as much.
