So I was out riding today, having a good time and I was just riding along when my bike quit. I tried to restart it and it wouldn't start. I leaned down to listen to it and it seems like something is making an extra sound, not quite a knocking but something isn't right. It can't be things like the starter...it wouldn't quit mid way if it was...so what do you guys think it could be?...anyone have this happen before?

hmmmmmm

is the starter spinning it over really fast as if theres no compression? if it is that could be a broken rod, second thought was it smoking at all when it died? some mor einformation would be helpfull.

yea, now that you mention it...I kind of remember some ticking and the engine was kind of whining noise before it happened.

And yes, it is spining faster than normal as if there's no compression and it's almost like the starter is the only thing spinning. No there was no smoke.

can be the one way bearings that fade and that not spinning the crank.

Turn the crank with a ratchet and check if you have compression

alriight, I tore apart the motor today...I ot the clutch side case off and there it was, some mangled pieces of metal came out. I don't know what they were from but they flew into the cam chain sprocket on the bottom end and threw the chain...so yes the chain is why it wouldn't start but now I have to figure out what those pieces of metal were....so now my new question is what in the bottom end has springs in it, there were 6 springs just laying there. They're not the clutch springs, the clutch is still intact. My friends and I can't figure out what they are...any help please!

well there is slight chance but i doubt it, if they would it would have to be really small chunks.

no it wasn't valve springs...the top end is fine and the valves are still all together.

it was the clutch tension springs that sit sideways behind the clutch basket...for some reason the screws that hold the plate in backed themselves out and hit the cam chain causing a whole mess of problems...this is not cool...has anyone heard of this happening?

the way you descibed it, sounds like you just blew the clutch out?

yea pretty much, I mean i didn't blow it because of riding it wrong, it was just put together wrong. the screws worked their way out and now it's all torn to shreds. But does anyone know if i have to buy a whole new clutch basket or can i buy just that plate with the springs?
