Yes, it will put more stress on it, but it will last just as long as a 416 if he did it right (HD head studs ect)........

It all depends on what comression piston that is put in. the higher that it is, the harder that it is on the engine and the higher octane gas that is needed.

Ok what need to be done to make a 440 reliable this a 440 with a 12.5:1 comp piston. What needs to be replaced for reliability etc.

With that 12:5:1 piston you would want to at least put a Carillo heavy duty rod and heavy duty head studs in there. A trued and hard-welded crank also adds a lot of insurance but is not as much of a necessity ;)

i have been running a 12.5:1 piston in my 440 for a lil over a year and a half now and i aint broke not one engine bolt on the motor for anythnag other than oil changes and 1 valve adjust ment....if the 440 is put together right it will last as long as a stock compression motor.

Are you still running the stock rod on that 440? Just because it hasn't broken in one year, doesn't mean that it's fine forever. A high compression 440 motor that is put together "right" will at LEAST have a heavy duty connecting rod. With an 11:1 piston, you might be ok for a while with the stock rod, but 12:5:1 is definitely pushing the limits and asking for a busted rod through the cases and tranny :eek2: Ask TC426EX, he can tell ya all about it :o ;) IMHO, the money spent to upgrade the connecting rod on that high of a compression motor is cheap insurance compared to the amount of money spent when that "properly built" 440 grenades.

If that was the case on my motor, I would be afraid to ride the thing. It's not a question of if it's gonna blow, but when.

aint had a problem....it has been rode extremley hard to both at the drag strip and gncc races.
