What tires for my truck?

alright guys, i just picked up my new truck...its a 1995 F150 long bed, 302ci 4spd 4x4 and the tires on it are crap. so im asking you truck guys out there for some help. what tires do you run on your trucks? ive heard good things about the bfg mud terrains, but how is the milege on these tires? is it a very soft compong that will last 5k miles? picks of differant tread patterns would be great, just let me know what tires you guys like for your trucks, im ganna do very little mudding, mostly dirt trails/roads snow, and also mainly road...idk just let me know of some good all around tires:macho

I have Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck...they have been a great set of tires! They look pretty cool too :)

I would go to Nittos website to see good pics of the tires but here are some of them on my truck

they fill up my fenders nicely and they seem to be lasting pretty good and i drive quite a bit

the all terrains seem to be pretty nice if you;re going to be driving down the road. If you are a serious off roader look into some super swampers. My buddy has a 2001 F-150 with a 5 inch lift and runs all terrains, that kid rarely gets stuck (if ever) in 4wd

I've had a set of BFG All-terrains on my truck for awhile now.

From all the sources I've been able to see, the BFG muds do last a long time. Usually, they last about as long as the All-Terrains. On average, I think All-terrains go about 40K. I've seen higher and some lower it just depends on the vehicle, driving personality, and how much road and smoke shows they see.

It comes down to what you want to do with the truck. I think your best bet is some BFG All-terrains. When people say that it's a good tire, it really is a good tire. They go MUCH better in mud and snow that's around my house here in Ohio than my old tires. The traction on dirt roads is great. The white lettering is cool too. :D Overall a good buy IMO.


Sure, the price isn't the best but good truck tires just aren't cheap these days.

I USED TO HAVE BFG ALL TERRAINS AN THEN I DECIDED TO GO TO BOGGERS (STUPID CHOICE). THE ALL TERRAINS ARE AWESOME IN SAND, AND THEY WORK OK IN MUD TOO. NOT AS GOOD AS THE MUD TERRAINS BUT THEY LAST WAY LONGER.

Buying a M/T tire is pointless unless the majority of the time you are in muddy conditions. They dont handle well on the road and are not as good in the snow...especially icy conditions - they are actually worse than most tires on ice.

I would suggest a good A/T tire. I'm currently running a set of Bridgestone Dueler Revo's.... so far a great tire for ALL conditions... VERY highly rated...actually rated higher than BFG's on Tire Rack last time I checked.

BFG All Terrains are good, depending on how heavy your truck is you'll get between 25-30,000 miles if you rotate them properly and don't be a dummy and burn them off. Mud tires are worthless on the road... you'll only get 15,000 miles out of them and they are loud. Tires are too expensive to waste money on... The least aggressive Mud tire that may last a little longer is the Pro Comp MT, but expensive too. Yokohama makes some cool looking AT tires, Bridgestone Duelers are ok, General Grabber recently came out with a new AT (Check the link below) - Last set I bought were cheapo 31" "Durangos" from my local shop $108 each - cheap tires usually are made of a harder rubber compound and they last if you keep them rotated and your truck aligned.

I agree to disagree. MOST M/T.s tires are bad on road and ice. I had BFGs M/T on my 97 F350 diesel. Those tires would not hook up at all. I bought Goodyear wrangler MTRs and those stuck like glue. I didnt have wieght in the back in two wheel drive without a problem even in snow. Actually my buddys and I went wheelin in a foot of snow and I had to pull them all out. They had Boggers, Thornbirds, and BFGs. Im sold for life on MTRs.

Your right... I was making my statement about the BFG M/T's.... I should have been more clear. After reading your link though, I am surprised how well the Goodyears do being a M/T tire. That appears to be the M/T to get if you really need one.

BFG All terrains are where its at for general driving......... I have a set on my truck and there pretty darn good.......... I'll either get those again or a set of mud tires.

If your not going to be in the mud i don't think i'd go after a mud tire......

And as far as boggers go, why the heck would you put boggers on a truck you drive every day you get 10 thousand miles out of them IF YOUR lucky, there extremly soft tire, Thornbirds SUCK worst tire ever made......

If you set on a mud tire look at the Bridgestone destination MT its a wicked looking mud tire..... MTRs are nice but arn't as good as BFG's in the mud..... ANd yes mud tires arn't the greatest on ice, but you can air them down a little bit will help, I ran 33 inch mud tires on my old truck and i slide all over the place, so i ran in 4 dig most the time......

BFG AT's or MT'sboth wear about the same if youkeep them rotated ( I've had both ) currently on another set og BFG AT's. Any MT is gonna give you more road noise and as all ready said they don't grip wet pavement or ice as well as as AT tire. Seems the trend here lately is whatever looks the best to the owner, doesn't seem as though many people consider the ride quality or road noise as long as the tire makes their truck look bad *****
