does anyone know the proper way to clean the outerwear (sock that goes over the filter) without ruining the element on the outside of it.

Thanx

I just wipe mine down with a damp cloth inside and out and let it dry for a few minutes.

I'm with WheelieMan, I just make sure to spray everything off with a hose real good. Then let it dry for several hours before running. Tom

You know... for many years now I have been using laundry detergent to clean mine, but I do not know if it removes the "water repellent" treatment on the pre filter. I know mine is no longer "water repellent".:(
