I work a second job, part time, at small independent gas station here in Youngstown, Ohio. At about 5:30 today, we ran out of regular unleaded. I was talking to the station owner about getting our next load of gas and she told me that there was none available. Our local distributor gets the fuel from terminals owned by big oil companies such as BP, Shell, and Marathon. BP and Shell have plenty of gasoline but are releasing none of it. Marathon is only shipping gas to it's biggest stations. While this is only speculation by the station owner and our distributor, they feel the big oil companies are holding this fuel until the prices spike more, netting them larger profits on what they have been holding. I realize Democrats and Republicans are pointing fingers at each other over the ungodly prices, but the real blame needs to placed on the oil companies for gouging us, especially in the wake of the disaster the has hit the Louisiana. The oil companies are making record profits, and putting a serious dent in the economy because of pure greed.

In GA I hear it is $5 a gallon because of all the people from the storm are coming up to get gas. This is unfair! They have just lived threw a storm and now they have to pay 5 bucks when there houses could be gone.. etc.. Greedy SOB'S

I heard about that...actually Fox News said that one gas station was an isolated case - the owner is spiking prices because he is predicting a big jump.

When they showed the sign, $5.xx for 87, and over $6 for everything else, I got a bad feeling. :(

Things like that tick me off. Like the economy isn't bad enough. I only live 5 minutes from work. I feel bad for the people that have a long way to drive. You'll work half a day to pay for your gas. And charging people that just went through a hurricane $5.00 a gallon is ridiculous!

Like MxJunkie 69 siad, Josh the 20 oil rigs lost is no supprise due to the hurricane, and since we lost the 20, and just payd about 70bills per drum... is another reason gas prices are so high, but i agree with the guy who said that the big companies are holding out, i think wawa should sell it cheap because wawa's are everywhere and they are always buisy, and its not like they dont have the money to take a small loss in the fuel world, because teh market part is booming with business as well, and yeah, gotta love small cars now aday's, im trying to find a scooter!, just thought id throw out my 2 cents

The bad thing is that no matter how high the prices go, ppl will continue to pay for it. Satisfying the oil companies and helping us NONE!

Yea, and we were still complaining about those prices. I can see in the future us wishing gas was down to $3/gallon again. :(

raising prices because of "shortages" is crap imo.

not only will oil and gas peak cause of this storm, but watch for your ins. premiums to jump as the ins. companies start paying out for all those lost rigs and equipment, an act of god may not be covered but weather realated damage to an offshore rig sure is

Its 3.39 here in most places, 3.50 in others. Thankfully I have 10 gallons of regular in the shed. 6 of 110, and 5 of 93. All the bikes and tractors are full. My truck is almsot full. I'll top it off on the way to work, I think it will be 4 bucks tommorow morning.

I'm also going to buy a little dyke bike on satarday. A honda Shadow 500 for 700 bucks. Its in nice shape, and I'll be able to drive around and visit with people on weekends without burning up a bunch of gas. Should get around 50 mpg.
