What is the best tire combo for 400ex in woods? I have a 2000 honda 400ex. I want to ride it in woods and in thick mud. What is the best brand/style tire front and rear to get the best out of the bike. My biggest concern is to not get stuck in the mud. Also, please advise on sprocket toothe ratios to match tire sizes.
Thanks, zach

holeshot hd's all around would be a great tire combo. just drop one tooth in the front and you are set for mud boggin and trails.

knarlys out back with klaws up front. 20x11-9 fo rthe rears, the 22x11-9 are too tall unless you drop a tooth up front. Front tire go with 21x7-10 Great combo IMO.

All of these tires that have been mentioned you really cant go wrong with, so I would just look at other things like price, and wear capabilities. I would say the kendas would be a better choice if your on a budget and want a longer lasting tire, or if your looking for strictly mud bogging your better off getting a more aggressive tire like kenda bear claws, or Spider tracs, or even an all out mud tire like mud machines, or vampires.

well as far as wear goes.....

i have had mine for a year now. rocks, sand, gravel, pavent, grass, mud and such. they still have 85% tread left. so if i wanted woods tires again i would go with the II's but yea HD's and knarleys are great

ill soon be switching to klaw fronts but my 22" sur trak rears are the shiznit.. real meat cleavers..

the others are great trail tires but they dont dig in like id prefer..

the sur traks have great bite on the side walls and the width will walk you over some of the worst 4wd ruts.. also they clean out easily when your really diggin the mud..

also get a 14tooth front sprocket.. itll keep you in mid 3rd gear with alot of torque under the thumb..
