What is the best tire combo for 400ex in woods? I have a 2000 honda 400ex. I want to ride it in woods and in thick mud. What is the best brand/style tire front and rear to get the best out of the bike. My biggest concern is to not get stuck in the mud. Also, please advise on sprocket toothe ratios to match tire sizes.
Thanks, zach

14 tooth front sprocket and razr2s 22inch rear and 22 inch fronts or 20 inch rear if you dont have to have the clearance

I run 20" Kenda Knarly's in the rear and founs them to do quite well in the mud....I was suprised as to what they went through.

If your biggest concern is "not to get stuck in the mud", I would recommend 22" rear tires and 23" front tires on your 400ex.

Both Maxxis Razr's and ITP Holeshots make excellent tires for this application.

I used the ITP Holeshot XCT's for several years, and was very happy with them. The 2 negatives with them is the fact they are much heavier than stock tires, and cornering is not as precise as the smaller tires... Especially at higher speeds.

Also, it was a must for me to drop one tooth on the front sprocket due to the power robbing heavy tires and taller size tire.

Good Luck!:)

i have the kenda klaws, and i am very impressed with the versatility of them, they work great in all conditions i have ran into. So far they are the best tire i have used

I - razor rears are the best mud tire out there, combo that with razor 2 fronts and you should have no problems in the mud. Thats what the GNCC pro's go to in the muddy races
