I just put a 440kit on my 400EX and when i took my motor into the machinist to do the work he told me that i was to lean. I had a 170 main. Before i did my 440 kit i had a knn and a white brothers e Series slip-on. So now i have a fully ported 440 kit with a Hot cams stage 3 and a rev limmiter. How should my carb settings be now because he said i want to break it in fat. could somone please help me out on what my settings should be or w/e because i got my quad used so i dont know what they did to the carburator before i got it. thanks.

i would try a keihin 170 mainjet
stock needle with the clip in the 4th position from the top
42 pilot jet
2.5 turns out from lightly seated on the fuel screw

these are just a guess. i don't know if you run the stock air box lid or not? i don't know what temp you ride in? i don't know what elevation you ride at?

sorry, i ride around seal level. 70 to 100 degrees, and my air box lid had holes in it.

I have just about the same mods and ride in the same conditions. My main is 175 and the clip is still in the 3rd spot. This is a stock motor though, i would think a 440 would want a slightly bigger carb but there are alot on the forums that would know better than me in that area.

since your elevation is soo low i would start at 180 main, 42 pilot, and go fromt there.

yeah, start anywhere around there. i always ran mine a little lean because it was a little more mean. :D however, many of times with a higher compression piston it will provide a better signal from the carb and actually pull more gas through that same size mainjet. i have seen many times people going with higher compression pistons and needing smaller mainjets than they were previously used. by the way, i ran a keihin 158-160 in my 11:1 426.

yea im only at 160 main 40 pilot on keihen jet. but cals400ex, we are at a much higer elevation than gopeddin400EX, so he needs a bigger main jet.
