Ive had an idea for a while is it possible to powdercoat on top of chrome or do you need to sand blast it off?

it can be done, but IMO it should only be done where impact resistance is not a concern. the powder bonds to the chrome, but the smooth surface doesnt give it a very good bite.

i do this alot on street bikes, custom cars/trucks etc. but havent had much use for it on quad parts, except the small billet parts.

now if the part is chromed, and you just dont want chrome, it can be sanded to etch the surface. and only on good chrome, flaking chrome is a sign of underlying rust and will eventually affect the powdercoat.

just a geuss, but id say 400 grits or lighter. you dont want to dig in really deep, even a scotch bright pad should be enough. after that i would blast it with aluminum oxide at 60 psi to clean it up.
