300ex tires and gearing

alright....i race a 300ex with stock gearing and 18's in the rear, ive really heard a lot about people running 14/36 gearing on theres and i wondered if that would add a lot more tourque like i want, plus ive heard you got to take the case saver off, i dont want to do that because ive already broken one case so is there another solution for changing my gearing?

I am running 14/37 gearing.All I had to do is grind a little bit off the case saver and install it at the same time as the chain and sprocket.
