it should be reliable as long as you dont go with some crazy compression ratio 11:1 would be nice and reliable, 12:1 is probably alright, but i personally wouldnt go any higher than that. i prefer to stay around 11:1

I imagine the 380 is just a stroked 330. It should be plenty reliable. The 330 I've been running for 5 years is rock solid.

I personally don't like stroked 300's they rev too slow for me. But that is a personal preference thing.

I agree on the 11:1.

Being air cooled, that is the highest I would go. Otherwise you're gonna have to start mixing race fuel.

380 is a big bore, 300ex's have quite a bit of room for really big pistons

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: . 380 is an extremely large bore. You would need to run some crazy gearing with that and it would have insane power. I like my 330 kit from FST a lot. It has performed flawless so far. Go for it, that 380 would waste 400's like theyre nothin. My 330 doesnt have much of a hard time beating 400's and you would have 50 more cc's than me, as long as you get a good port and polish and a good cam, that thing will RIP

Druel.......

That would be an 86mm piston (0.400" over) w/ the 65.5mm stroke. That bad bad boy should rev like a mofo.

Might need second oil cooler for that baby.. lol. That thing will probably pull the front end up in 4th gear.. lol. Might look into a +2 or +3 swinger while your at it.. lol.

However, the FST site shows the standard 380kit as being a bigbore/stroker kit. 80mm piston w/ a 75.5mm stroke (stroked 10mm's). Note: those 2 sizes are just an estimate pulled out of my butt, based on the 330 piston being stroked.

An 86mm piston w/ the 65.5mm stroke would own, though. Assuming you could get past the ignition issues of the larger piston w/o having to redesign the head.

I love my FST 330.
Very reliable. Haven't had to to any engine rebuild on it for 5 years, other than normal maintenance like valve adjustments, etc.

A 330ex that is fully done w/ port, polish, cam, big valves, good pipe, HD clutch springs, CDI mod, etc... will pretty much double the stock HP. Mine puts out approx 35hp at the rear wheels. You could get a couple more peak hp, but I wen't with a higher torque setup for xc.

A full job will probably run you around $1500 these days.
