Who would win between a stock 450r vs. a stock yfz. Or both modded the same how would they do. Also could you you name both pluses and minuses about both, I haven't decided on which one to get.
Thanks in advance

whats so different about the yfz that would make it faster?

I've had my honda 450r about a year now, I just got my 06' yfz last Saturday and they are completely different and equal in their own right. I think the Yamaha may respond more to simple mods compared to the honda. So far my r has exhaust, jetted, hrc cam, intake and stock gearing the yfz is just jetted, piped and intake and they are pretty equal, in my experiences the difference in a drag race is about a bike or so. The yfz is still harsher to ride than the honda but seems quicker and more explosive out of corners, the Honda is plush and the power doesn't seem so abrupt but is just as fast. I never realized this until I pitted my two bikes against each other that the rear end on the honda spins a lot compared to the yfz that hooks up so well that it will pull a wheely in third gear. Just my observations!

Yfz is just faster....4 of my friends have 450r and 3 have YFZs. The YFZ's leave em in the dust all time....Not to say that the 450r isn't an awesome quad, the YFZ is just faster.

In sand drags I see 450s win all the time over yfzs!

sampleez

in sand who has the better tires makes a HUGE difference. and rider weight changes things

but from my experiences, the yfz is usually faster, unless the honda has quite a few more mods, or a better/lighter rider.

there both great but yamahas record hasnt been reliable. the stator,on the 04' and with the starter the go bad with a hicomp piston honda has the crappy frame design but ou can get rewelded

Really? Blow it out of the water?

We're not comparing a YFZ450 against a 250EX here. True, the YFZ appears to have the edge in many different types of riding over a 450R, but it's not a huge, overwhelming difference as your post suggests.

In '05 (maybe '06 New Raptor hasn't been tested yet..) The YFZ-450 was the fastest quad out of the box/off the show room floor, So for speed the YFZ is faster.

450r is faster according to what I read in the dirtwheels a few months ago. It was faster than the old yfz, not the 2006. It was like two miles an hour faster. Just my two cents though. Steve

the yfz's powerband is totaly different from the honda that has alot to do with it..also i think depends on the rider mainly..the honda has more torque too

all i know is both bikes are fast but ive raced bout a dozen in the drags and the closest race ive had is about 3 bikes behind me. my 450r is stock for now and only 1 yfz has been stock. ive rode them and they are the most uncomfortable bike ever made. i had a guy that owned a yfz hop on my bike and when he got done he ended up traded his for a honda

i bet any amount of money your 400ex would not beat my 450r. if u live in ohio meat up and get some. i will take your money. and as far as honda being chevy the only thing ive ever done to my honda s is lube my chain and throw **** on the yamaha boys. ive owned hondas my whole life. ive had yamaha boys ride my hondas and sell there yamahas and buy hondas. im not saying nothin bad bout yamaha but look. they have and extra cam, 1.5 points higher compression and a better flowing head design and still can only keep up with honda. the hondas are detuned. so stop talkin till u know the facts

i've got a 400 ex and i've spent alot of time in the sand this summer and i feel alot more confident of having a good chance of taking a 450r in a drag than the yfz. If the rider is good then the yfz will have the upper hand all the way next to my 400 but the 450r doesn't really show until it hits its higher rpms and longer gears then it pulls ahead of me in 3 rd gear. they are both fast quads but i think the yfz will win with equal mods and riders.

man i can understand where u come from. all i do is drag race every weekend. ive never been beat my a 400ex. i had a 400ex for 5 years. i had way more done to it than u do. my 450r is a lot stonger than my 400. i have raced just about everything and unless the yamaha has had the total motor redone with after market parts i havent been beat by one with only bolt ons. so thats all im saying

yes my bike is stock. i put an aftermarket foam filter in it for the throttle response and dropped one tooth on the front sprocket. for a little more low end. when we drag race around the races are set up 330 ft. i beat them pretty bad within that range im not saying that with there mods that they wouldnt pull on me on the big end. i would hope so. but in the actual race thats what happens. and it wont be stock any more my parts will be showing up this week

Everybody thinks these yamaha's are so fast. My friend has a yfz with a high compression piston, head is ported, cam exhaust and when we run around a track we have built we are neck and neck on the straightaways. When I put a high compression piston in and get my head ported it will be bye bye. It's all talk but when his battery went dead is was the honda pulling him so he could jump start it. Honda is better and more comfortable and has quite a bit more torque. The yfz is faster off the showroom floor but who cares how fast they are stock how many people leave them stock and there is alot of hidden power in the honda motor.

sampleez
09-07-2005, 10:21 AM
i'm not saying that the yfz isn't hugely faster than the r. but it is faster with similar smaller mods, and then it depends on who builds it for the higher end motors.

torque isn't that important in mx. just look at what dasa did with his latest motor. he sacraficed quite a bit of lower power and torque for some huge mid to top gains

blah blah blah on the battery issue. if he bought a $50 part he wouldn't have any probs. i've had mine for 7 months without one prob with the bike. and without lights or the resistor kit. i even left the key one overnight and it fired up no prob.

i wish you pansy a sses would get over the seat. i like the seat and wouldn't wan't a bigger one for a few reasons.

and you're right about the honda having hidden power, duh....all these high tech motors do. but it's harder to do and most people don't wanna/cant afford to spend big bucks for someone to find it. sure, dan can get 65 horse, but you prolly don't wanna know how much it is to get it there.

MR.BIG

Torque doesn't matter in motorcross that is a stupidest thing I have heard. So I guess when your on a tight motorcross track what in the hell is topend power going to do for you.

sampleez
09-07-2005, 05:33 PM
ok......explain this. if you need so much torque for a tight course.....why does all but a few of the 250cc supercross guys ride 2 strokes??? when the 450's have soo much more torque

Tom TRX250R

torque isn't that important in mx

sampleez,
That is by far one of the dumbest comments I have ever heard!!! Alright buddy if torque isn't necessary on a track why do all motor builders build low end motors for it?? I have tried riding my 250R with the drag cylinder (ALL TOP END) on the track and it wears you out real quick. Then you switch to the low end porting and you go faster and don't wear out as quick!

sampleez
09-07-2005, 07:27 PM
look at the dasa section of this site. he posted a dyno of one of his latest motors, and it didn't really take off until the mid and top end. and this is for a pro mx rider, so i'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing

and i didn't say you want a top end motor for mx.

The simple answer to that question is they are all powervalved cylinders which give you a lot of lowend through mid power. This is why half of the 250r's out there are now running PV cylinders.

we're not gonna know the comparison of the 06 yfz and r until they do a test

becuase both upped there motors this year

the yfz with the nw crank and head ports
and the new bore and stroke 450r

i think the yfz will still be faster, the motor design just has more of a kicky edge while the 450r will always be mellow

I dont see how you guys can compare the comfort of each. If your really out there riding hard than you shouldnt be sitting much at all! I can ride my yfz all day long and Im 6'3" and 240#'s. All I did was lower the pegs and raise the bars and its great. All my yfz has is a full exhaust even the stock filter and it beats my friends 450r with full exhaust and intake mods and hes a very good rider and 60 #'s lighter than me!
