I was always a bigger fan of the CRF quads also. I have had several of each (crf and yzf) and both have their advantages and disadvantages. The CRF motors are more mellow and easier to ride, and no need to worry about an oil tank. However, the carb sits lower on the CRF's and with stock converted frames, airboot issues always pop up, CRF pipes are a lil harder to get fittin right, and you need a different water pump cover. I have never had any major problems with any of my hybrids once they were completed. There will be more maintence than is on your 400ex now. All in all it is a great swap. And if you do a converted frame, by time you sell all the 400ex parts you dont need like motor, pipe, carb, oil tank, wiring and stuff like that, you really dont end up with that much more in the swap after all is said and done.
