Tapping at start up

When cold starting my 400, it taps for a few minutes then stops when it warms up a little. I am just about positive that it is the decompression unit on the cam. Would it hurt the bike to run it like this or would it be fine? Also, is it possible and safe for me to remove the decompression unit on a stock cam?

It is possible and would be fine to remove the decop. I dont think the tap will go away though. I noticed a good bit more top end noise whn running the Honda GN4 oil over other premium brands. When your quad sits all the oil is in tank and bottom end. Have your valve lash checked and stick with good oil.
