I can get a mint low hours 85 atc250r engine for a good price. Would it be good to put it into a 88 trx250r. I was told the trike engines revved higher and pulled better, is that true? My oringinal engine is getting tired , I would like to try a different engine. I will rebuild my engine one day but I would like to experiment with something different.

itl work fine, yur 88 has more power stock, and there are some internal differences. the 85-86 rev higher but the 88 pulls harder. and u can turn any yr engine into any other style by changing out some components. if its a goood price get it or tell me where to get it.

they have 1 port and its a little weaker

87 they have 2 ports so its stronger

thats the only difference i know of

it'll hold up, and it will fit in your 88

the atc motor is the same as the 86 trx motor. its the short rod motor. i beleive the 87-89 hit harder on top but they hit. the 86 still hits hard but its more linear. well as linear as a zinger can be

Stock for stock the 85-86 ATC motor was more powerful than the 86 TRX motor due to higher compression (thinner head gasket). Not that you see many stockers anymore.

got it virgin with a little yellow cap instead of the plug, matched with an esr intake modified TMX 36mm

love it, it is black too.. .

as far as break in went,
:D :cuss: no such thing!

10 mins idle and thats the only plug it fouled, after that I dont know about you guys but I can't ride an r non full throttle

especially with a 1/4 turn twist

jet it rich and mix your fuel normal..

I used the same break-in for the 450R, none that is!

:scary:
