my buddy has a 05' raptor and it is all stock, granted mine is not stock but in a side by side drag race my 450 kills that thing every time

with a big bore, the raptor will win, especially top end because of the higher gearing.

i rode a raptor for the first time the other day i really didnt expect it to have as much power as it did, they fly, my 450 accelerates way faster and has alot more bottom to mid , but the raptors you can literally just touch it in 4th and it comes right up i dont think id race mx with one there power would be pretty useless there but as far as a playbike or maybe xc or desert they seem like theyd be awesome, felt so much faster top end and alot of pep..fun quads for sure

I have both. And I ride mostly desert.

The raptor has no comparison. It's much better than the 450r.
However, I rode them both in a close circuit and the r was easier to move around.

too bad it was a joke. now, you may need to pay attention to what the mods have been saying about no flaming, etc. if you havent noticed, there has been a lot of cracking down on these sort of posts because there is absolutely no reason for it.

i wont lie thats a nice bike you got there, but i could make mine win with a lot less money than what you have into yours :) also, lets go to the track, sure you'll win in a staight drag, but anything else i'll still hand you your ###... i guess it just depends on what your thing is, to each his own...

i dont drag pretty much ever unless its a friendly thing like everyone does occasionally, im all about some mx and sx though! there isnt that much money into my motor either, just a bore and piston, cam and springs, valves, port and polish, hinson clutch basket, and gytr clutches. i do love a 2 stroke, one day i will build one, but i am used to 400lb machines so its not a big deal for me to throw them around. as for who would win mx, 90% rider, and i have always believed that. where are you from?

i was talking to the guy who posted that drag raptor pic with the dual exhaust and swingarm and etc... sounds like you got a nice bike... i like the raptor, its nuts the torque, and i cant hardly tell what gear i'm in while riding in- every gear has enough power and just goes... just give it gas and it dont matter what gear youre in... i'm in the phoenix area, and ride mostly at the dunes and occasionally at the tracks and in the desert around here when i dont have time for a dune trip, or when glamis is 110 'F... sorry if i was overboard earlier, i just get a little high strung when i havent gone riding in a while, and its been almost a month...

that is fine, but it sounds like you need to get some strange!

two strokes are fast cheaper i have had a 250r also 265. fun bike. but four strokes are getting faster every day. so you better be carefull nest time u line up to a four stroke. it might surprise u!!;)

youre right, 4 strokes have come a long way... until this year my bike's motor was stock 100% original from 1989, with a pipe, filter, and rad valve... if it wasnt for the four strokes getting faster my bike would still be stock... i like the raptor, but if i was to ever switch my primary bike (my 250r, and i dont anticipate ever swithcing) it wouldnt be to a raptor, but to a 450. the raptors have been out for years and i was fine racing them up the hill, but it was the yfz 450 that made me decide to beef up my R from stock... but i can see why a lot of people are buying the new 4 strokes- not too many good 2 strokes being made anymore, and its hard to find an unabused 250r. i was lucky enough to find a stock orignial one with maybe 20 hours on it, and bought it for 2k back in 2002. by the way "dsandraptor," whata you got slammed in that raptor?

ha ha ha, i imagine you probably would- and should. i dont do much flat ground dragging, mostly race up comp hill at the dunes... and my bike is set up where i can dune, track, desert, etc... its not a drag bike... i think thats the first raptor ive seen with two pipes and silencers...???

i dont see y they say a raptor is not a good race quad at all. i race my raptor all around western south dakota and i have no trouble keepin up with teh yfzs or jumpin as much as them.

90% rider 10% machine. stock the raptor isnt that great handling, (excluding the 700 probably) but with a little work it is an pretty bad arse machine. but it still weighs more than the other quads around

Yeah but w\ some customizing by urself u can make a great Race Quad....weight isnt that big of an issue in XC Racin but im only 117lbs and have been on a Raptor for the past year and 1/2

tater_kamik
09-27-2005, 09:06 AM
i agree, but less weight is an advantage, and short of making an titanium frame, which would be sweet, i dont see a way to realistically shave 50 pounds off of an raptor
