First before even considering a phone find a carrier. Who cares about features if you never have service. After you figure out who has the best service for where you would be using the phone, figure out what kind of plan you need...most companies offer lots of minutes and some offer rollover. Most companies offer pretty good deals on phones when you purchase a new contract. I have a Nextel i730 but originally bought an i530 for $Free after rebates when I first got my contract. But now I pay full price on phones until I renew, which when I do I will be getting the i870 or i930 (If they are out by then).

Thats what I have now too and it annoys the hell out of me...I had the V810 and then I got this POS on an insurance deal and its not even half the phone of the 810.

I just got the new lg 8100 from verison. I have that new every two deal that they have. The phone online is $200. They gave me $100 toward that phone with an online line discount of $50, and this is the newest phone verizon has. I think it just came out.

exactly, ive worked for a cell company for a few years and like he said, features dosent mean crap when you dont have a signal. also what good is it if it dosent work. i worked for powertel which turned into voicestream and then t-mobile, and IMO T-mobile sucks ***. the customer service has to be done over the phone and you cant get any help inside the store. also the signal dosent work unless your on a major highway or interstate, which means it wont work in trails. your best best should be a prepaid service so you dont break your parrents wallet, and since its should be used as an emergency. your parrents should know enough about where your going and where you will be to really need a cell phone.

Your best bet is to ask around...if your friends have them, ask what service they have and how well it works where you would be using it. That's how I decided on a Nextel, noone else had decent enough service by me, and almost everyone I know has a Nextel, so direct connect is a must have feature for me.

moto i710 (thru nextel)

I have a plan set up with my bro as a 20/mt. add-on. Not bad at all. Like Blazinyamahayz said, consider what plan/carrier will be best for you and your needs. Likewise, everyone I know pretty much has nextel; i use the dc 2x as much as I call, so that saves a lot of money.

My LG vx6000 was an excellent phone for awhile then it went to **** all of a sudden. Battery wouldn't hold charge for more than a few hours on standby, it would randomly turn on and off by itself, the screen went blank and did weird stuff all the time. The phone itself was designed very user friendly with good features, and a good camera but it just didnt last me very long and I've read about others with similar problems. So monday I'm getting a motorola v710 through the insurance company, only going to cost me 74 bucks out of my pocket. Here's the Motorola I'm getting monday

Personally, I Think Nextel is becoming very dominant in the cell phone world. I have an i860 and I Love it. Heres What the picture quality is like...

I took this pic with my phone...

I can not understand why people pay the high prices that nextel charges just to have the walkie talkie feature. Most all companies offer free mobile to mobile, or free incoming, so if you are not a construction worker/etc why pay for it? I work in the telecommunications industry, and for businesses nextel is very nice, but for the average consumer it is a joke compared to other companies.

Not really, and that is not a plan that they offer, atleast in my area they don't. The closest they have to that around me is the local 500 for 39.95. It includes unlimited Night/weekend and unlimited direct connect. Long distance is not included, and costs $0.20 a minute. That doesn't compare to most other companies plans.... unless you NEED the walkie talkie feature, then I understand.

Verizon...

I personally do not care about the "features" my phone has. I only want it to make a damn call and recieve a damn call. But sometimes thats too much I guess.:ermm:

if you have enough friends with Nextel then its the way to go, Motorola phones kick ***.
