I just bought a new Edelbrock dough eichner carb but with my old carb if i run straight race gas or even mix it with some 93 my bike seems to run like $hit. WHy or what would cause this? I am really hoping that this new carb will solve my problem. My specs are beliw. thanks

I was running a 160 main on the 4th on the needle and a 42 pilot but i was so pissed with my carb i smashed it was a BFH and through it away and bought the Doug Eichner edelbrock carb any ideas what the jetting should be. i think they are only clips and needles. but as for my plug before i went ape $hit on the carb it was SUPER BLACK.

you dont have to rejet for race gas, Hell you might not have enough compression to even run it you probablly could just run 93 or what ever you can get where your at

11:1 will run 93 octane just fine.

of you have 12:1 - 13:1 (on air cooled) you probably want to mix 25% race / 75% premium.

But, in all honesty it just sounds like you had your jetting messed up. Jetting off will make it run like crap.

When you get the bike jetted.. once it warms up, if it starts pinging/detonating than you have a 12:1. ;) If it doesn't then you have an 11:1. Of course running too lean will make either one run hot and in turn detonate.

Odds are, you have 11:1 it's the most common.

You can measure the compression, but I doubt you'd want to spend the cash on the tools. ;)

i can run a compression test at work it does ping quit a bit too. the compression should be 12:1 right?

11:1 prefered for pump gas.

You may just be running lean still. It will cause pinging too.

11:1 or 12:1 would be static compression. You'd be measuring dynamic compression, so it will be a little off depending on valve duration, timing, etc..

You'll most likley read a little lower because the intake valve usually doesn't close until the piston is already on its way back up the compression cycle.
