View Full Version : Soaking your chain

In order to break up all the junk and old lube on my chain I thought about soaking it in something. I know gas will ruin the O-ring seals. Is Kerosen ok? What else could I clean my chain with I plan on taking it off--removing the swing arm bolt\motor mount. Thanks

I'm pretty sure that kerosene is OK. But how do you get the chain off? I need to clean mine badly!

Just use wd40 with the plastic tube.. Mostly karosene anyway.. Or just do what I did, and run it till it broke, then replaced it... ;)

I wouldnt soak the chain for very long. I soaked mine over night in motor oil and when I put it back on it strechted. The metal streched so the chain didnt match up on the links anymore. Evidently the oil softens the steel to where it can be stretched so be careful not to ruin your chain.
