could a stock bore 250r with a pipe, airfilter keep up with a stock bore yfz if they both have the same mods, in a straight ? and i would like to know how does the 250r do in the trails compared to some of the new four wheelers ? thanks for any responses

A stock 250r will not keep up with the new 4 bangers in a straight.

You have to increase the bore size to a least a 265. Most people who want an advantage increase it to a 300.

In the trails? I dunno. We don't have trails in SoCal.:D

Yes it can keep up!!!! But if you can't ride you can't!!!!

I can keep up with any 350, 400, 450 and 500.

And I'm over 40.....:D

The 450 will definately have the advantage but then again it depends alot on the rider. In the woods they should be about the same because the 450's have a tall first gear which is a nightmare in tight trails. They are both great bikes. If you do a lot of trailriding the 450r is better then the yfz in my opinion!

a stock bore 250R with a few minor mods can give a new anything a run for its money. i had one, just recently went from a bone stock bore with pipe reeds big carb that was as fast or faster then the new stuff... to a big bore, that is definatly faster

No, the 250r is complete junk. Worthless. It might keep up with a Recon, but that's about it.

zedicus, does this mean you're not going to sell me your R for $500?

my R's not fo sale.

do u meen 13/42 gears? 13/32 yur topend would b like 120mph but it might take a stock bore a lil while to get there...

there is NO WAY a stock bore motor can pull that gearing, especially with SPIDERS!!!!!

spiders are horsepower robbing tires.

hahaha why so defensive, you should slow your roll on callin me names.

13 32 is like 15 38 and only big bores can pull that gearing, heck most have to be on alky or ported heavily

I had have a worked 265 in my R with 20" paddles and 20 " razors and pulling 6th with a 14/38 ratio is HARD and i garauntee you my 265 has TWICE the amount of power than your stock jug.
I can call BS on you if i feel like it. I know R's more then you know the back of your hand.

matter of fact i cant really pull 6th with the paddles on with 14/39 gearing so unless your signature is wrong and you arent running 13/32 I CALL BS

the only wheelie youll be throwin in 5th with that gearing is your ***

and second i never caleld you a liar, i simply said its not possible

So I guess you had your 32 tooth rear sprocket custom made. 36 tooth is the smallest you can get for a 250r.

Big, i was gonna leave that out till the end, but it seems like hes not responding. There could possibly be a rear sprocket that will bolt up to a R with 32 but regardless a stock jug with stock porting aint pullin it.

Actually, if memory serves me correctly, Honda sport quads all use the same rear sprocket bolt pattern. And if that's the case, then you can get a 34T rear. And I'm pretty sure that somewhere I remember even seeing a 33T. But I know they do make a 34T, because it's what I run on my 300EX. And if my stock 300EX can pull 14-34 gearing with 18in MXR4's, I'd be willing to bet that a 250R could do it as well.

Why are we even comparing sprocket sizes between different atv's. They all have different gearing ratio's coming out of the Tranny's. Tire size makes a huge difference too.

the 300ex on 13/38 on 22" tires covers 23.63" of ground per revolution of the front sprocket.

a 300ex on 14/34 with 18" tires covers 23.27" of ground per revolution of the front sprocket.

So in reality even though the sprocket gearing is higher, the 14/34 300ex is geared 1.54% lower than the 13/38 setup when tire size is factored in.

A 250r could work with 13/32's only on 18" tires, but barely, IMHO. (never have seen a 32 tooth rear either, on a 250r) I dont beleive the tranny reduction ratio is geared as low as the 300ex is.

we discussed this in PM, he has a 38.

the only kind of R that could run that would be a drag R and they dont make a 32 tooth sprocket for a R if they did drag r's woulldnt have to use 15 front sprockets because they could use a 14 and a small rear.

they used to make 34 tooth rear sprockets for 200x's and 250r's, pretty weird they are, they bolt on in two pieces. They were big with the flat track racers

Hey I have a 250r and a 400ex and the sprockets will not work between those two. I've tried it

BACK TO THE QUESTION

This is dead honest

I was riding with my friend, he has a 88 250r, with a pipe

The other guy, his friend had a yfz450 with a $700 pipe, aluminum airbox, and filter

The guy with the yfz beat all the other yfz's, my friend said it is hard to beat that bike

The 250r with pipe, raced the yfz450 with pipe, filter, box

IT WAS EVEN

I was even like, dang

So if you had a pipe and filter like you said, you would beat a stock yfz.

Stock for stock would be even i'd say.

A 250r does just fine.Look at the race results at Englishtown from the last race. The guy who got 2nd place in the +30 class was on a 250r with mild port work and a pipe.It was a roll chasis but the motor has almost nothing done to it.

How close a work R and a yzf are would only matter in B classes or better. Even in B and A class, a good rider could easily sway the difference. Just ride and don't worry so much about it, If you worry so much about if someone else's quad is faster than yours, you'll end up like me :(

I've tried it All 400 ex , 300 ex, 250 r , 250x rear sprockets WILL interchange. And you can go as low on teeth as 33 in a split sprocket for the rear on all of em.On the 33 tooth one the sprocket flange is very close to rubbing the chain, so even if you could get a 32 tooth it you would have to grind the sprocket flange down.

oh, only a roll chasis? hahaha.

id rather have a worked r framed bike with no motor work then a worked R motor in a OEM framed R.

the lager, walsh, roll etc chasis allow you to push the bike that much harder without hurting your self or the bike.

LOL very true but I do know two of the other quads in the top five in that race were CRF/Walsh hybrids.

my friend was riding his quad for about 3 minutes straight with the same throttle about 3/4 , and blew it up , is that normal for a two stroke , the guy he took it to told him that 2 strokes cant be ran at the same throttle amount for a very long time ,can you guys run at the same throttle for very long?
