i have a 300ex for the trails and i need to do the valves........how do u do them. i pretty much know the basics cause i helped a freind do them and his 400ex......i remember having to put the piston in a certain place or something and the valves have to be certain spaced or something.......but what position does the piston have to be in if it even has to, and what is the space the valve has to be..........any help will be appreciated.

Check here http://www.atvriders.com/articles/valveadjustment400ex.html

The procedure is the same for the 300 except the valves should be set to .004" clearance on both intake and exhaust

TDC = Top Dead Center.
Take out the small plug, with the allen wrench slot in it, on the left side case in the stator/flywheel area. Theres two of them. A bigger one right in the middle and a smaller one above it. Take out the little one. Turn the motor over by hand until the mark on the flywheel lines up with the notch in the hole. THen you'll be Top Dead Center.

Note: it will be easier to turn it over if you take the spark plug out. ;)
