In since the 400ex isn't liquid cooled, will it over heat, if any?

yes it will, if I run mine at the dunes wide open for a while, then let it idle, it will overheat, I have air scoops that help a great deal.

So would it be smart to have a liquid cooled engine?

I am very happy with my 400, I have a high comp piston in it and I added a oil dipstick temp gauge, I keep an eye on it.

Until it gets clogged with mud and then overheats and locks up.

I've never had a problem with my 400ex over heating and it feels good to pass those that do have radiators in muddy conditions because their piston is welded to the cylinder wall.....:eek2:

ahhhh...an advancement in technology that is surpassed by simplicity:devil:

Just remember that it's air FLOW that does the cooling. If you sit in place idling for very long, shut it off.

that clears a lot of things up for me, thanks. is it really THAT important to have shock resoirvors on your shocks for jumping and excessive heat?

I run race fuel (110 octane) in my 400 and have never had a temperature problem. Regular pump gas will make a big difference but if you dont let it idle for a long time and have air flow over the cooling head and oil res then you should be fine.

I wouldn't let it idle for a long time, if I did, then I would just turn it off, lol.

how much are air scoops or what ever?

and how do you know if it overheats

and what exactly does it do when it overheats?

Air scoops vary in price, I picked mine up from Tinner on this forum for less that $50.

You don't want to find out what happens when it overheats, I have a thermometer dipstick.
