I have some 250r fenders that were bought brand new in 1998, but now they are a little faded and scratched. I was wondering if it would work to sand them down to a really fine grit (like 1200) and then use a heat gun to melt it and make it shiney. I know this technique works well with newer plastics, but will it still work with the older stuff? thanks.

That will work just fine, but be carefull with the heat, you don't want to melt them.

Just for shine we use foaming tire cleaner. Seems to work great. You might want to use it after you do your sanding.

Yah, i use Formula 2001 for shine, but I want the actual plastic to be really shiney, this has been a long project and I want everything to look really nice when im done.

last week i took a propanch to my fenders where i had gashes from crashing, i lightly made swirl motions over the erea and waited to see it liquify a lil, then i would back off, put cool water on, then repeat

it works incredibly well, more than %90 of the gashes

just be careful on factory stock plastics, when the get to hot, they turn brown, and quickly too

i get a towel and wet it down with paint thiner, and get a dry towel, and wipe hard with wet towel, and then come back over it with the dry one, i know it works well on white so it should work on any i think,

sand those babies down...use a car polish and a buffer to buff the scratches out, then take a torth over it very lightly to shine up.

Mop n Glo works good for plastics. It stays on much longer than the Armor All type products.

Thats what i use and it works better than any thing else ive tried.spray on let it sit 10 -20 mins then wipe any excess off. Any time ive seen plastic sande it turns white. so watch that.

PC Racing makes "Plastic Renew" and that stuff does wonders. Requires several layers/stages of sanding/treatment but is well worth it and gets better every coat. I wish I took before/after's with it on my yellow Z400, made it look new. Once its on there, its on there too, where as this car polish / tire cleaner wouldnt be as permanate. I had mine a year, then I touched it up with a super fine sand and 1 coat of the PC stuff and it looked just as good as the first time It was done. I have also used it on black cr250 fenders, and got great results too.

i work on boats and we use rubbing compount to restore color and take out fine scratches so u may be able to use rubbing compound then wax with a good paste wax and it should shine like new but u may want to try on a spot that isent seen much

i am going to try a few different methods in an obscure spot, to see what works best, i would like to just use armorall om my white fenders, but there is a stain on them from the coal dust that I ride in, so im going to try the paint thinner first. thanks for all of the suggestions.
