longer cylinder studs?

i just purchased a 4.5 mm cylinder spacer plate for my 250r, and i know that longer studs are required, so i purchased those as well. my questions are, how are the studs installed, and am i able to do it myslef at home, or is a specialist required(local quad shop)? any help is appreciated.

this can be done at home. Putting the new ones in can be done but putting in hand tight then double nut on the top and use a wrench to finish. Getting them out can be done the same way but some times they are a real PITA! When I changed mine I actually had to use a small pipe wrench to break them loose

also a stud remover from napa auto parts as a last resort had to use one on my chevelle once and my buddy used one on his r for the one stud that wouldn't come out

As far as quads/dirtbikes are concerned my mechanical tactics might be off the wall or unorthidoxed, but in 15 yrs of owning and rebuilding my own bikes I can honestly say I have only had 1 mishap. That is when I learned the difference of needing race gas as opposed to pump gas.

1988R, how exactly did you get your studs out? i need a step by step, b/c i don't see how double nutting it could get the studs out??

double nutting, they will lock onto each other and pull the stud up

put them tight and loosen the bottom one, and it can't turn freely on the stud cuz it will be up against the other nut, therefore it will pull the stud out

just do it and you'll see, but loosen the bottom nut to take them out

it makes little sense to me... is it possible for you to draw a diagram, b/c i tried doing what was said with no luck, so if you can draw a diagram and post it, i will know if i'm doing it correct or not.

i'm pretty sure i'm doing it correctly, but i have had no luck. the 2 nuts still spin, and when they do lock, the nuts begin to strip b/c the stud won't come out.

u can use a new pair of vice grips, they live little teeth marks in the stud but ive never had any problems with it.

a propane torch helps on the casing next to the stud, it works great. use a NEW pair of vise grips and heat.

when you re-install use some silver anti-sieze.

wat do you mean by 7w or 10w vice grips... there are sooo many dif types of vice grips out there, someone just show a link of which one works on this application. i was able to get 2 studs out by double nutting, but can't get the other 2 to budge.
