Im in the middle of completeing a transaction for a YFZ
and i want to know what are some basic mods that people do,well not mods, but i heard something about the thumb throttle being stiff...what is the solution to that>
I heard something about the killswitch,if you hook it up it blows fuses?

What are the solutions to those problems if they are at all,and are there any more that are common on the YFZ?

i put a throttle off of a honda 300 4x4 (same as 400ex, 300ex, and i think 450r)

made a huge difference. i don't get "thumb pump" or whatever at all with it

I see,i heard that you can take out a spring out of the throttle or something?

Do you use just the throttle and hook up the stock 450 cable to it,or the throttle and the EX cable?

the 450 throttle cable. and you'll need to take out the TORS sensor out of the throttle and splice the two wires together.

Yea deff get the honda throttle, i got a 400ex throttle and put my yfz cable in it, it made a big difference on the track.
Another thing you need to do, if you plan on taking the headlights off then pick of the resistor kit from yamaha, otherwise youll kill your batter after a few rides.

and if it is an 04 deff get a decompresion plug, like 10 bucks from kandk

if its a 04 ull want a resistor kit and decomp plug

on any of them, honda throttle, pingel tether switch to a battery ignitoon

what does the decompression plug do, and what will happend if i dont get one. im looking at purchasing an 04 yfz450. thanks

the decomp. plug is near the top of the engine in the front (facing the radiator. It's a rubber insert with a metal core, very cheep design. I'm not exactly sure what it does but I do know that they have been known to pop out, oil comes bursting through the whole and vuola! You may have blown your engine, sounds like fun doesn't it!!!! But for about ten bucks you can buy a billet one and prevent a catastrophe.

it just because on the 04 the hole for the decompression release on the older 400 and 426 are not casted over, so they plugged it over when it was no longer necessary, and there plug blows out along with your oil

Gunnar Makes a kill switch that is much cheaper than the Pingel and is still a normally closed switch like you need

one thing you can do with them from the stock form is advance the cam timing ( i believe thats what it's called) and my suzuki's throttle is butter...My dads banshee is a ******

Toadz400

Actually I thought you retard the exhaust timing one notch? Maybe I'm wrong...maybe I'm the retard:ermm: haha

If you're having a problem with your thumb becoming too sore with the throttle, I think you need to ride more often. I grew up riding all the time, whenever I could, and I never had a problem with my Banshee throttle being too stiff or my YFZ throttle.

Yea it's just a matter of getting used to it I was a baby at first with the throttle finger, now i can go for a straight 4+ hours no problem. But i still need to get used to the banshee throttle:cool:

think I'll get the E-bay spring and a honda throttle! My hand was so cramped at Power Line Park I had to pull over like 3 times.

I either have a very muscular thumb or dont know what people are talking about the throttle being stiff. I dont notice it at all.

So whats the run down on doing the Honda throttle swap? Honda 400ex or 250r throttle and use your YFZ cable?

JDiablo
01-03-2006, 09:02 PM
Actually i heard of the 400ex throttle and the TRX 90 throttle being used.Nothing about a 250r one.

I used a 400ex throttle, with my YFZ cable.

I think the TRX90 throttle is more recommended because the thumb lever is longer than on the 400EX.

will a honda throttle work on an 2006 YFZ-450?

Where can i get the honda throttle and which should i get and can i use my stock yfz cable?

Toadz400

Use the TRX90 because the lever is longer. You should be able to use your YFZ cable. Check eBay and see if you can find anything, if you can't find TRX90 look for 400ex.

More than likely it will, if the TRX90 throttle will work you'd think the 300 would.

ok when you talk about the honda throttle are you talking about the part that mounts to the engine or the actually thumb throttle and assembly that mounts to the handle bars. also where is this spring located. is it in the housing on the bars on down near where the cable hooks to the carb.
thanks

JDiablo

The throttle.

Toadz400
03-06-2006, 09:16 PM
We're talking about the thumb throttle and assembly that mounts to the bars. People usually get a different cover on it though so it doesn't say Honda when it's on a Yamaha.

Also, I'd highly recommend doing the cam mod. I did it this past weekend and had awesome results.

1. Decomp Plug (04s)

2. Carb spring mod
(changing the throttle assembly doesnt make the push easier, it just relocates the position of it)

3. Cammod

dimnova36

one person say its the trottle assembly the other says its the carb spring. which is it?

JDiablo

You can do both.

I did the cam mod (retard the exhaust cam one tooth). its free and it helps the mid and upper really well. As for the bog thing everyone talks about, i put a boyseen quick shot and that helped out alot (90 bucks or so). I have an 04 and have had no problem with my decomp plug comming out. I just genks (however you spell it) myself, better go buy a billet one.

By the way, mine runs really good with everything on it. The quick shot seemed to help it out with revving also. It made it more snappy than what it was. I am staying with a really fast predator, cannondales and a fast YFZ.
