Burning Oil

y am i burning so much oil. i have a k&n filter with an outerwears and the lid off. and i burn oil everytime i ride..my friend has an 05 400ex and his doesnt burn oil...or its not noticable. anybody know whats going on..??

Can you see it and smell it burning oil? Like can you see bluish smoke pouring out of your exhaust pipe? Or no?

If you can, your rings are probably going bad. Happens a lot on older 400exs. If you don't see anything but your oil level is dropping, you probably have a leak somewhere.

no blue smoke, just some black smoke..its an 04 and ive had it for 4 months so i must have a leak somewhere...how do i find it?

black smoke dosent sound good. you might have a serious problem.

its not black smoke, its blue smoke that is coming out ,u just dont realize it ...i have an 04 400ex and it does the samething and its either u need new rings or your exhaust valves need ajusting of a combo of both.
