Ive had a 2005 400ex for a few months now and just got my 1st maintenance done by them, since they threw in a free warranty i have to bring it in at the intervals. They charged me over $260 for 3 hours of labor for this. Is it just me or is this ridiculous. My friends 05 suzuki only took them an hour to do. I think for the things they do on the first maintenance it no way in hell takes 3 hours?! What did everyone elses places charge them?

what all did they do. id never take my 4wlr to a dealership. its easier and cheaper just to do it yourself. thats way to expesive if all they did was change oil and adjust valves.

That comes out to a labor rate of about $87 an hour. Kinda high, but about the norm. Your gonna get hosed anytime you take your quad to the dealership to have work done. Our dealership was real cool with my friend. They told him to take it in for the first service, then after that as long as he kept the reciepts for all the maintnance parts and he bought them from their dealership they'd cover any warranty work that needed done. I don't know if yours would do the same for you or not though.:ermm:

Hogwash... the so called "free warranty" is provided by the factory, not the dealership. The dealership didn't give you a free anything. They are blowing smoke up your ......

They ripped you off again. The first maintenance consists of an oil change and a valve adjustment. That's it. It usually runs about $120. Oil change, Filter, 1hr labor.

I would NEVER take it back to that dealership again.
Remember, Honda did not rip you off.. the privately owned dealership did.

I would do 2 things.
1) Demand an itemized list of parts and labor for that "service". If they won't demand your money back and offer them the industry standard $120 for oil change, filter, and 1hour labor.

2) Report their *** to Honda HQ for poor business practices. Make sure they know that the dealership is using their warranty as a "since we threw in a free warranty, you have to have the engine serviced by us." crap.

It is law for automobiles, that they cannot require you to have the vehicle serviced by them unless they provide the materials and service for free. Since an ATV is considered an OHV automobile and not a motorcycle by the department of transportation, then this law applies to the ATV as well.

260 would only be worth it if the detailed your quad and adjusted the valves if needed. the dealers do rip you off, all they do is check things like oil, tire pressure, etc... they do what it would take you an hour to do at the most.

Sounds like it was the dealer who ripped you off NOT honda:eek2: $87/hr. labor rate is wayyyy too high. Most dealers only charge $60-$65/hr.

I'm about to do the same thing, the dealer ship that sold me my trx450r said to bring it in so they can adjust stuff, and put in new fluids, the guy said that they might have to replace some parts, and that they want to check out the whole bike make sure it has been broken in properly so far and what have you.
Also he he said it would be max 200 bucks.

Whay you guys think sounds like same thing that happend to pork917
