View Full Version : Which brand clutch plates are best?

09-19-2001, 12:23 PM
I intend on replacing my clutch metal, fibers, and springs on my 300ex soon. Should I stick with oem stuff, or go with aftermarket? I noticed that rockymountain's website says that the metal clutch plates are better than alloy? I would think it would be opposite. Which brand is best and where can I get it?

EBC clutch kits are good, they come with fiber + steel plates & heavy duty clutch spring. There 89.99 in rocky mountain atv part # DRC100. They might not be the best, but there still better than stock.

you should try out the new hinson kit, it is a 8 clutch plate kit compared to the stock 6, by using 8 its dispenses heat better and keeps the clutch cooler and less prone to slip, the only odwnside is i think, but im not sure that you might have to get the removable hinson clutch mod in order to fit the extra 2 plates, but the plates might be thinner and you may be able to use your stock cover im not sure:huh

factory factory....thats what my local shop told me ( lost creek cycles ) and i trust them greatly...he runs honda plates in all his honda and yamaha plates in his 426's ( drool drool ) and that a good aftermarket basket is handy...take it from there mine has barnet in it now and he told me to get them out as soon as possible....

I just took out my Barenett last night, it did not last a month! The guy I bought it from said that he will stand behind it if Barenett won't. So I am looking for a clutch also.

The only other thing about going with more clutch plates is the clutch pull gets stiffer,,,,arm pump sucks..

I noticed that my clutch feels like it's slipping when I take off on a hill. It sorta flutters for a second then grabs.... I just replaced it...springs too loose???

alot of companies do not like barnett's because they have kevlar in their fibers.hinson even says that it will eat up your aluminum inside your clutch compartment.i run barnett's and love em' just change your oil more often, its better for your bike anyway....

I talked with the Pres of Barnett yesturday, he agreed that I have excessive wear for only about 20 hours of riding. He told me to send it to him and he would make it right.
I hope to know more in a week....
