I am getting ready to build a 250r this winter so i am looking for parts now. I am going to build an 88 so i had a few questions:

1. Are the parts between the 88/89 interchangeable?
2. What is the biggest weakness with the 88?
3. What parts are universal with the 86-89 r's?

Thanks a lot guys

As far as the chasis goes the 88 and 89 are nearly identical, but there is a different length linkage, and the shock is valved to that year to match the linkage. For the motors, I've been told that stock the 88 made the most power. The 89 motor has the best clutch out of all the years. For the 86/87 parts to fit on the 88/89 model 250r's yes all the parts are interchangeable except the foot pegs, but and this is a big but some parts will require some modifications or special fitting of the part to get it to work right. Your building the 88 250r, so for the chassis stick with 88/89 parts to avoid any problems.

alrite that sounds good...so anything that will fit the 89 will also fit the 88?

I have a feeling I'm going to be asking you some questions when i get this build started:rolleyes:

Acording to my clyimer manual the 87-89 wireing is the same, but the 86 is different, but I don't know what the differences are.

the 86 doesn't use a keyed ign.

the 86-87 swingarms willnot work with your 88-89 frame.

the 86-87 have an integrated motor mount in the swingarm, the 88-89 have a separate frame mount for the rear motor mount.

the 88-89's have +1 a-arms with a -1 1/4 swingarm. the 86-87 use the standard a-arms with standard longer swingarm.

the ac regulator isn't made anymore for the 86-87 harness, but you can still use the 88-89, you just have to splice.

Any CDI is usable.
Any plastic is usable.
I'm pretty sure that the spindles are different, the arms that connect the rod ends to the knuckle are 2 piece.

Try **********.com, or macdizzy.com for more info.

Incorrect. The swing arms will bolt in without any problems, but you will need to cut the upper tabs off of the rear 86/87 motor mounts.

As far as wiring harness's go any year will work with any bike. The major diff in the 89 and the other years is the plug ins for the stator have 2 diff terminals, but aftermarket ones can be used to solve that. The key switch on the 86 worked like a kill switch taking it to ground so its a good place to install a tether type kill switch. The 86-87 spindles are the stepped ons,88-89 are tapered.I believe the hubs are the same, just different bearings.

86-87 are not the stepped ones. Its the same all the way across meaning both inner and outer bearing are the same size. the 88 is stepped and 89 is tapered Both year hubs are the same. You can not use 86-87 hubs on the 88-89 spindle or 88-89 hub on 86-87 spindle

I know where Flemington is. Morrisville is directly across the delaware river from Trenton (lucky me)

No pics of the silencer yet. but its the old school on where its all brushed aluminum, not the black one they sell now. this pipe here s also a old school paul turner. its not chrome, its the factory look type. I ran it on ym R for a long time and it ran great.

i dont know... 100 for pipe and silencer?

i don't really have too many R parts anymore . Just some little things, already sold the major items(e.g pipes,swingarm,a-arms) I have to see what I have left. What are you in need of?

Atkins is parting out a 250r, I talked to him on aim last night. You might want to PM him about some parts, he has most of a 250r.
