You'll want to scrape the powdercoat out of the shock mount bolts holes before you try to get a bolt through there, you can screw the bolt through the PC but be careful when the bolt is pushing through the other side that it's going through, I bent the back shock mount flange on my regular travel arms. It was no big deal, I just bent it back but it cracked the PC a little. Also, before you put it together, take one of your a-arms mount bolts and make sure it fits through all the metal bushing spacers, I had three I couldn't get a bolt through, and they don't drill out very well, hard arse metal. I told Houser about the problems and suggested they start quality checking stuff better. When I got my LT arms, they were perfect, so maybe you won't have these problems. :p

aroracer72
08-11-2005, 10:28 PM
maybe not....but you may have just saved me alot of work...thanks!!!......and i just keep looking at the arms...and thinking about the pipe and stuff........im pumped to get it all done and see what she looks like :)

I was pretty frustrated, I got the stockers reworked and bought +1/2 inch a-arms and couldn't wait to put it together to see the improvement, then the spacers wouldn't fit. You already have the axle and shocks so it's already a lot better than stock, those a-arms will make a nice difference.

does that axle say "durajunk" on it??

How does your dale compare to the 450R?

aroracer72
08-12-2005, 10:24 AM
on par if not better handling...ands has way more bottom end and top end rev. But thats compared to a piped and cam 450r...not a full blown race motor.

On another notew........any tips for getting the ball joints off the spindles...there eing a POOPY HEAD!!!!

what size are those houser a-arms?
are they LT?
do you plan on riding trails or mx?

Get a ball joint breaker. I always just flip the nut over and screw it back down on the shaft then hit it with a hammer a few times.

Im a B ckass mx rider...and for now im gonna be usign this set up..(standard travel) for mx. Next year around the same time im gonna be getting some LT arms.

Looks like Christmas!!!

Now, where to start.

You can probably make a suitable ball joint breaker from some nuts and bolts in the garage, I unscrewed the ball joint nuts out most of the way but didn't take them off, then I got a nut that was almost the same size as the ball joint nut so it sat on top of it, got a bolt that was just long enough to fit in between the two ball joint studs, put the nut on the bolt, popped it in between the two studs and unscrewed the nut with two wrenches, it works like a charm, then for the other ball joint, just get a longer bolt so you have enough reach to push the remaining balljoint out, then unscrew the nut again and your done. I made the mistake of trying to use a balljoint fork to pry my first set of Housers off and tore the boot, so I had to spend $30 out of pocket on a new balljoint and send it with the arms to the guy I sold them to. It works and it's the only way I will do it now. :p

I figured out the ball joints. You take the nut......screw it on the threads, jam soemthign between the nut and the spindle...and screw the nut loose...this acts as a prier...and opushes it out!!!...workes awesome!!.

I got one side on...had to take a shwoer and get ready for a date...so the otehr side is left to tommorrow.

Also UPDATE...picked up a HIGH comp piston..and a enw helmet.

And isnt it true that you get a 15% power increase from removing your airbox lid.

Smoker
08-12-2005, 05:19 PM
From what I've read you don't want to completely remove the lid since you need a little vacuum from the airbox, just cut it out like a hrc lid. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, please. :p

I agree with that too, but that's what I've read, so it's hard to say. That's how they made the HRC lid though?

and whats up with saying durablue sucks? ive bought all my axles from them and never had a problem.

redrider05
08-13-2005, 04:58 PM
yea ive had durablue on my 400ex's both my 450's...n never had any problems...but those were eliminators

my one freind had a x-33 n it snaped n half...but ive seen others not have one problem with them..

i think what people gotta remember is prolly how many axles they sell per year which isprobally alot so failures are gonna be more common..

aroracer72
08-13-2005, 05:22 PM
for an average racer and rec rider..theyre perfectly fine..but those guys are probably expert racers...as myself..and we do jsumps of size 60ft to 100ft. The biggest jump ive ever done was this 110ft table top at a track i never go to anymore. And durablue are known not to hold up very well in these conditions........

The quad is great though.....started first pic and idle super smooth and ran awesome until the rad went. I dont have any front plastics on in the pic.....cause of the rad...but when its all 100% done..ill post complete pics.
