i want an engine skidplate for my 04 400ex... i was thinking mabe dg, ac, or pro armor or something. i have a swingarm skid and i hit that thing left in right because i ride in trails where there are tons or rocks... but i notice that i really dont hit my engine or frame at all, i only have hit it once or twice... i hit that worthless little plastic skidplate that you get stock under the engine and it made a huge gash right through it but luckly i didnt hit my engine.... i want something to protect my engine but since i dont hit it very often i dont need something very thick and i dont want it to cost me an arm and a leg... whats a good thickness for me and who makes a good qualitly skid for a decent price? thanks alot and sorry for the long post!

PRM makes great stuff, they have a .125 thickness which would probably last you forever.

future 450?

already have a dg fat series swing arm skid... i am very impressed by it but there thinnest skid plate for the engine is 3/16 thick-how thick is that in decimal numbers? like .160, or .190? ... and then the fat series is even thicker...im not sure i will need something that thick. so then i decided to look at my other options too, like ac and other brands make skids .125 thick and .160 thick. i thick mabe .160 would be good...? not sure, i want something that wont break if i hit it hard but something that isnt very heavy.

i have had, ac, dg, pro armor, and prm skid plates. now, i wouldnt get anything besides prm. they are a very good company when it comes to skidplates. the pro armor seems nice, but the welds cracks, dg and ac bend. prm all the way.;)

3/16 is .190, just divide 3 by 16.

i would get a .190 thick skid plate. theres not much weight difference at all, and if your getting a skid plate might as well be the best.
