ok so when you check the oil on a 300ex do you screw the dipstick in or not thanks plz respond fast i need to know. thanks in advance

I think you have to screw it in. Or you can dip it in and fill it too the half full area and when you screw it in it should be to the full mark. It just saves you the pain of screwing it in and out.

I have heard both ways. My buddy said his clymer says to just stick it on there, and not screw it in. So I changed from the old way I did it (screwing it in) ot that. I have a clymer too, but I'm too lazy to look. So I just fill it up to the full lever by sticking it on the top part.

thanks for your replies trevor and hondardr4life i think i will go with just setting it in there from now on do you think it will hurt the motor if there is just a lil and i mean lil bit to much oil in it.

It will just blow it out of the breather tube.

Correct.

To check the oil on the 300ex/250x you do not screw it back in. You just insert it until it's resting on top (at the point where you'd start screwing it in.)

If you screw it in, you're gonna be a 1/2 quart low on oil.
