View Full Version : quiet exhaust? with power upgrade

I have a 2001 400ex. What is an exhaust system or pipe that would give me more power and throttle response with out getting any louder than a factory exhaust. If it could be less loud would be a plus.

Is this a possibility or a dream.

white brothers e series will give you all that but some extra noise but when you order the pipe get the quiet core insert also and that will bring it close to stock sounding and the insert doesnt affect power output

The FMF mega max 2 is adjustable and i think you can make it quieter than stock. I'm not sure on the power gains but there has to be some kind of gain

yes the mega max 2 along with the white brothers is adjustable but i wouldnt reccommend adjusting them because the less discs you have in the less power you gain and i think to make it as quiet as stock i think you might have to make it as restrictive as stock which is 4 discs on the white brothers

I don't think you will find an silencer that's even close to being as quiet as stock.. Every one that I've heard was considerably louder than stock...

if noise is really an issue then just keep the stock one and when you want more power take the baffle out

Go check out the Dyno's at http://www.gthunder.com
they did one with the stock baffle removed from the pipe and it actually DECREASED the power. Whatever you do, do not buy the megamax. They fall apart very quickly. I would go with the White Bros. I like mine a lot.

It is a dream, sadly.

I think removing the baffle on the 400 doesn't really add that much power. It also sounds really bad.

DREAM--I have the T4, and it's rated at 95db, whish is one of the quieter ones, and it's load as hell. It's awsome! Big power increase though.

this is your best bet. I performed a similar modification to my pipe. It sounds MUCH better, and I can feel a power increase.
