Has anyone on here hooked up their fan on a 450r straight to a switch, so that you could turn it on and off as needed? It's close to 100 degrees here and I have been having problems keeping it from overheating? If not, what would you guys suggest doing to keep the temp down?

i know the do it on the crf ignitions if you run your electrical.

Use Engine Ice it helps lower the running temp. I live in South Florida, so it is hot here also. I have no problems.

where can i get engine ice??? I have looked several places and cant find it anywhere. Also, is it just an additive or a replacement antifreeze?

Around here all of the motorcycle shops carry it. You can also get it at www.rockymountainatv.com

It is a replacement for your antifreeze. You don't not mix it you use it straight. One bottle is enough.

Yes you can run the fan on a switch and Id recommend it..By the time the thermostat sensor pops on the stock TRX its already to hot, with a switch you can run it all the time..The CRF ign. that TT sells does the fan this way on a switch and thats the only way Ill put one on a TRX, its really nice to have the switch for the dunes and trees.

since the r doesnt run on a battery, wouldnt it be more convenient for honda to make it run all the time? with no battery life to worry about, why not? just better cooling

Creates drag on the motor..Most people it wouldnt matter but running the fan you loose like .4 of a HP.:D

where could I get all the necessary wiring to make the switch work? Would I have to buy the whole CRF ignition?

I did the fan switch to my R and i wouldnt run it any other way. But the reason i didi it was because i was changing my spark plug and i broke the connection to the sensor on the thermostat and just never fixed it so I just went to autozone and bought a switch and found a ground and just hooked it straight to the temp sensor wire that i broke off. It works great for trail riding when your not getting a lot of air to the radiator. I put it on the gas tank so its easy to get to and it looks kinda cool its the little chrome push button switch

or you could just find a power wire going directly to the fan and then just ground the switch to the frame or somewhere.. but you will not need to buy the whole crf ignition just go the the auto parts store and get an on of switch it will come already with the power and ground wire attached

im interested in this...may do it :macho

ok, I really suck at wiring and electronics, what would I need to do to get this to work, If i buy an on/ off switch with 2 wires on it, where would I put these wires?

mine was easy because my temp sensor had the wire broken off from it so i just hooked the power to that and the ground to the frame under the hood............ I think the fan is connected with the sensor wire so just follow the fan wires and find the relay for it and then find the power... either with a tester light or with a meter and you should be in the money ..............I am gonna try to hook it up so when i turn my lights on the fan will turn on and off just it looks clean and because its something different

well, I have my headlight disconnected, so I can use the on/off thumb switch on the handlebars for the fan, right?

on the fan itself, which wire is positive and which is the ground? If I remember correctly, there is a blue wire and a green wire.

yup you could use the light switch and i dont really know which one is pos or neg just do a test on it and see if it has power

how can you an ele. fan hurt Hp at all?

The power to run it has to come from somewhere, that somewhere is the battery, and that battery has to get charged from the engine running. Kinda a round about way. It would not be enough to notice it.

Another way to think about it that if the engine runs that much cooler, it could compensate by making the power back that would usually be stollen by a hotter running engine.

Either way the power taken by the fan would not be that much, predators run there fans about 80% of the time, and thats no joke.

:D Yup, had a brain fart. Thanks

and thats why predators are dogs because they need to run the fan 80% of the time.......just joking ? Its not gonna hurt HP its not like your adding any accesories or anything like that I could see if your adding more lighting then you would be hurting your HP because the stator would be under more load and your engine is at peak performance between 180 degrees and 200 anything hotter you are loosing performance ...........

so did you figure out the whole fan switch thing

right now i am getting a cam and piston installed so I cant really start working on it. But as soon as I get it back I will let you know it turns out

there is no difference with the fan on or off. there is no friction. it is not the fan being on that hurts Hp, it is the stuff that makes it run. so read up on stuff before you post.

P.S. we have tested this on the dyno.

Hmm theres a .4 hp difference in between the TT CRF ign. that has no lights, compared to the 90 watt stator version of the same TT CRF ign. thats made to run the lights and th

Just ground the wire on the thermostat and it will run all the time.
