Alright I need a 400ex frame converted to fit a CRF450 motor my question is what are the best places to have it sent to and have this done and how much and how long will it take....thanks

east coast atv. dave gibson did my friends 400 frame but he put a 450r motor in it. i dont think it took more than a month to have done. it came out real nice

do you guys suggest a CRF450 motor over a 450R motor or does it make a difference?

JB Racing is less than East Coast and they do great work, as does ATV Four Play. These are the 3 most commonly used companies for this conversion, so either one you choose will be quality

Id get the 450R motor b/c its internals were changed from the of the CRF motor to be ran in a quad frame. You'll still see a big diff. with teh CRF motor, but the 450R motor would be better. If you were gonna get a 450R motor, you should just sell your 400ex and buy a 450R. Itd prob be just as cheap. But if you can get a crf motor for cheap id do that.

I have over 12grand invested in my 400ex thats why im doing this conversion because buying a brand new crf450 motor is much cheaper than loosing 8grand on selling my 400

selling my 400 to buy a 450R is just not practical...this is why the conversion is a better choice for me.

I agree. Now I would keep the EX. But yea, then I would buy either motor, if you can get your hands on a 450R motor id do that.

Buy the CRF engine if you want a more powerful ride and the R engine if you want something that is going to be tame and reliable.

since when is a crf450r motor not reilable???? the crf would be better for a mx racer, get the 450r for a xc bike, they are far easier to restart when you stall them and also they don't have a tiny light flywheels like the crf motor, and crf motors can't use lights(stock). the crf motor is about 10 horses more powerfull, but in the woods, horsepower isn't always king, smooth controllable power is the key.

Where can I find a 450R motor then? I know service honda had CRF450 kits with everything i need but i didnt see any 450R motors on there...would i be able to convert the CRF450 motor to have a larger flywheel? or should I just go for the 450R motor...I am an experianced racer i race in B-class and i shouldnt have a problem with stalling unless its real bad at it

Compared to the 450R engine it's more unreliable. The 450R is designed for a quad with the heavier duty clutch and gears. I would just find a 450R engine and drop in a cam and add and exhaust. That is a good idea to put a 450R in a 400ex frame, I always loved the way my EX handled but wasn't fond of the 450R.

Yeah im probably going to go with the 450R motor....I would rather sacrafice 10horses over losing reliability any day!!!Especially in the XC buisness:D
