i am only going to be racing mx i need a quad to compete with a yzf426 engin encased in a 400ex frame
i will be getting a 400ex which engin mod should and tell me what kind of rockers, cam, porting job i should get with it
i would go with a 460, 465, or maybe a 500 to compete with that.

i need to stay under a 440
Im going with the 440. Im in the same boat that you are in. I said screw the 416 and i went all the way. But im not doin just piston ans rings. I basically blew my whole engine. I need everything but looks like youre gonna need it to. Dont bother witha 416. It will not keep up with the yzf426. Go for the 440.
Send it to For Dirt Only to have the work done mike can build a 426 that has 46 hp on a dyno the 440 has a bit more than that.(740) 967-1078

I'd go 416, then ride it around, compete in a few races and see how you do. Then if you still need more power, go with the 440. Once you go 440, you can't go any smaller without a new cylnder. There's no use in porting if you dont' have a better carb than stock. I'd reccomend the 39FCR

I'd get the 416 race it for awhile then do the 440. They have a used yzf426 dirtbike at my local dealership,,,,, looks like that motor might have my name on it???? I been thinking about it!!!!!!
