Buck brand knifes are pretty good. I have a preference for Gerbers just because the blade metal is so good and their build quality is awesome as far as durability. I have a Gerber police issue folding knife and I have a larger Gerber with the cross hatched rubber grip. The second knife is a little too large to carry in your pocket every day so it doesn't get used very often.

nice thread

i got a few

my favorite is the one in the picture

a Kershaw Avalanche spring-assist, one flick with the thumb and she comes flyin open 3 1/8" blade

i like Kershaw a lot, strong and sharp

i got other knives and daggers and stuff to but this is my favorite one that is clipped on my pocket 24/7, no matter where i go, school, church, wherever. And it comes in use a lot

While a knife can be labeled as a weapon, so can a tooth pick, a straw, paper clip or anything else that can be used to maim or injure someone. A knife is a tool that has been used too many times as a weapon so that's all people view them as, at least the people that don't use a knife for what it's intended for, which is working.

is that a switchblade?

lock is you have to press a button or move it up to open it

my first clip on knife i got i didn't want serrated, but then i did my kershaw is serrated as you can see in the picture and you can cut threw some tough stuff with it

spring assisted is cool, but that one up there i got is a $90 knife, so it costs to get it, lol

i don't know how you can't find one you like, there are millions look at kershaw, gerber, shrade, buck, and there is lots more

no, springs take a loooooooooong time to slow down, so you won't need to replace it. and if it slows down, loosen the blade hex bolt on the side and it will be like normal, just don't over loosen it

and length, i'v heard 6 inches and over you need a licence, but i've heard you can carry any length you want, those two comments were both from cops so...........

you can carry a meshedi around so who knows

i hope its not 6 or over is illegal, cuz i carry a 7 inch dagger in my car

My butter spreader is 8 inches

No one turn me in please!

Smith and Wesson knives are crap to be honest. Their styling is good but the blade won't hold a sharp edge for anything.

I love my spring assisted kershaw, this is my second one since I lost my first. The spring worked great for three years then I broke it while reasemling the knife after cleaning, but kershaw will send you a new one free in the mail no questions asked. I have the tactical blur http://www.kershawknives.com/large.htm its an awsome knife, I cary it with me 24/7 and use it almost every day.

If you want to actually purchase a quality knife, then you should look heavily at benchmade knives (www.benchmade.com), emerson knives (www.emersonknives.com). I would also look at spyderco knives, but I would prefer an axis lock benchmade, or an emerson over most knives from the spyderco line, but they are very good for the price. Also consider looking into the Strider/Buck knives which you will be able to find on the buck website. The strider/buck knives are a collaboration between strider knives (www.striderknives.com) and buck. Strider designed the knives and buck produces them to keep the overall price down, while still providing a very quality product. For what you are talking about, I doubt you want to spend the kind of money on a real strider knife if you only have a passing interest in knives. If you are serious about a quality knife I would look at these companies in order of the best: Strider, Emerson, Benchmade (same high quality as emerson, but I prefer the emerson designs more) and then the strider/buck, and then spyderco. Kershaw is ok, but it doesn't rank up there in terms of being very high quality. You could probably pick up a good benchmade for $100-$200 at the most depending on which model you chose. An emerson will run you about $165-$230. Strider will run you about $350-$500 for a folder, and about $175-$500 for a fixed blade depending on the model. Look for knives with high quality steel such as 154cm, s30v, or ats34. There are other very good steels, but these are what you find on most high quality folders. Basically, any good knife is going to cost you some money, but knives are not a tool you want to go cheap on, and you get what you pay for. I'd rather have 1 good knife, than a dozen pieces of crap like I used to have when I started collecting knives. Most crappy knives you'd find at a garage sale or the flea market are pieces of crap that will collapse on your fingers with any real pressure. Some info on strider knives.... http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BTT/is_173_29/ai_n7578410 these are about the toughest knives you can find... they take so much punishment, and if you can ever break it.. don't worry because there is full warranty on it.
This is the strider model I own and carry: http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/7053/ba043980ns.th.jpg (http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ba043980ns.jpg)

As far as sharpening goes, buy a spyderco sharpmaker. For $50 online it is basically foolproof, just follow the instructions and watch the video.
