honda has some catching up to do. due to the 450r, the 400ex is a dying breed. here in okc, z400's out sell 400exs 2 to 1. if honda wants to remain competitive, they need to put a electric starter on the 450r and seriously look at upgrading the whole design of their future quads. yamaha is constantly up grading the yfz(motor and suspension), plus the new 700 raptor is already a hot ticket. suzuki's new z450 is fuel injected and according to doug gust it is completely race ready off the show room floor. i am a huge honda fan but they need to step back and look at the competition and step it up a notch for future quads.

The rumor is that Honda will be showing a new 250EX(R?), 450R and a big bore 4 stroke at their September 7th dealer show.

when honda got thier ars's sued over the 250r's and three-wheelers they got scared in my opinion.........i love hondas thats all ill own even if its the slowest, ill handleing quad in compition. all i can say is the 250r was legendary, we more than likely wont ever see honda build another "legendary" quad that kicks the compition in the ars so hard they cant see straight when it comes to keeping up with all the other manufactures. i mean the 400ex is a great bullet proof quad, that to me means alot, they have potential out the ars and are not a dying breed. when the 450r came out everyone (in my local area) jumped up saying they was ragged and unreliable. thats not true honda will make something one day, but i wouldnt count on it to be this year. My best friend is a parts manager at our local honda, suzuki, kawi, ktm dealership and i sort of get under the table info on the dealer shows. kawi is supposed to be unveiling a 450, suzuki is also, but honda from what the fax said they are going to do is make a mx and xc version of the 450r. mx is pretty much the same and the xc is gonna have electric start. sorry for possible mixed feelings but every year its the same way about this time and i was just wanting to get it off of my chest.

Now that everybody else is figuring out the suspension and handling, Honda isn't top-dawg anymore... :(

I heard that Suzuki is going to downsize the Samari by 25 lbs so it will be the next Brute Force model for Kawi. Is it just me or are people asking for quads to be like Jeeps and such? Can anyone make me a 220 hp quad that weighs 2,000 lbs and can haul several people? I say just get a Samari and take the top off.

I would disagree about Honda not being the top dog. For me, top dog would be determined by the # of places in the top 10 of any race. Honda consistently has more riders placing in the top 10 on the 450r than any other manufacturer places. It really doesn't seem to matter which racing organization or what type of racing including desert racing. Honda is putting more in the top 10. Honda riders wins a fair share of the races too.

The only question is whether there are just flat out more people riding Honda's in the races.

I don't see why everyone wants an electric start 450R. Best thing Honda did was make it kick start. No battery problems or charging issues to worry about. I can start my 450R three times better than I could start my plug fouling/cold blooded/dead battery 400ex. Only way I'd like to see an electric start version is if they kept a kick backup on it. IMO
