What don't you like about it?
Is it a 2004 or 2005?

my wife had an 04 and i still have a 03 c-dale with atk updates plus the z-400 bearing and its awsome it handles great, very comfortable and very fast mine only has a pipe and open filter with a moto\speed map and it easily out runs my yfz with a esr full pipe, esr open filter and timing advance. and after the updates that the atk,s come with they seem very reliable and have not had problems with mine and the power is way strong but very smooth.

The wrist pin was found to be bad, they got a bad batch from wade wilcox engineering and it snaped on me. They have that problem corected now and it actully runs very strong now!

I plan on getting the MX version. is it true that they have bad ball joints?

actually if you are gettting the MX version it will either have the cannondale moto a-arms or the ASR arms so you should not have any problem with the ball joints.

How are the thumb throttles? I am kinda picky when it comes to throttles, is it stiff? how are the egronomics of it?

I personaly don't care for the ATK thumb throttle. I repalced it with a Z400 throttle which is a perfect match for the throttle cable. The ATK has a wide throttle and it pinches the webing between my thumb and fore finger.

But some like the ATK throttle, like I said its personal choice.

I HAVE AN ATK VR 450 MADE IN OCTOBER OF '05. I AM A MECHANIC BY TRADE AND I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW WELL IT IS BUILT. I HAD A SMALL PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK LEAKING OUT OF A FITTING AND THE EXHAUST WAS HUNG A LITTLE TOO LOW. THESE PROBLEMS WERE FIXABLE IN ONE DAY WITH LITTLE EFFORT. EVERY NEW VEHICLE HAS PROBLEMS, NEW CARS HAVE BETWEEN 30 AND 150 ACTUAL DEFECTS IN THEM WHEN THEY ARE SOLD. ONE TO TWO MINOR PROBLEMS WITH AN AMERICAN BUILT BIKE JUST MEANS OUR STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE ARE FINALLY SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. I AM PROUD TO SAY THIS AMERICAN BIKE LEAVES THE JAP QUADS IN THE DUST. I COULDN'T RECCOMEND ONE MORE.:)

I have a 04 ATK VR that I bought in April of 04, it has blaze mapping, I put a twist throttle on it from the begining & 14 tooth front sprocket. I have the full HMF exhaust, I'm fixing to put in the shop for the first time & have the valves adjusted, alm. valve cover put on & have it remapped as a moto (because of the HMF). The only thing I ever done to it is change fluids & clean filter.
