View Full Version : Moped with a dirtbike engine? (possible)

I was think'n about getting moped chassis and putting a dirtbike engine in it.

What engines would be a good size, I was hoping for a RM85 but I don't think that will fit. I am just looking into this so don't flame me for not knowing everything.


THINGS THAT COULD POSE A PROBLEM............

Chain size and fit: I could have a local machine shop weld a sprocket hub on the back axle.
Mounting: I could fab some crappy engine mounts.
Throttle:??????????????
I should be able to use stock breaks, right?
I may have to make my own shift foot lever but ow...well.

I know I would need to get my motorcycle license because of the engine size, but am going for that next spring anyway.

Please post any other problems that I could have.

I have a cheap rebuilt kx80 motor if you need it..got eveything for it. :)

No i am not that dumb. My dad's friend has all access to a quad, bike, and snowmible junk yard. -> Cheap engine = a lot of time, frustration, and experience on how things work.

If you mean cheap talking to me..I ment i'm selling it cheap. motor has 818 dollars into it. just needs a waterpump seal.

naw man u would have to go wit like a xr/crf 80 bc i they fit well in the chasis and i had a moped and i was gunna do that alsoi but to like make it legal for the road u hav to hav something not as loud

Why cany mopeds and cars be that loud? But a Harley can be loud enough to set off car alarms?
