How do you change the rear grab bar on 400ex ? Is there a place that will cut and weld or do I need to get a whole new sub frame ?

You need to get a new sub-frame,

..or they do have grab bars that you can cut and weld, I have seen some on E-bay. But most of them are just some sort of hillbilly engineering. Maybe someone knows of some perfessional ones that fit real well.

hehe my dad made a stainless steel desert grab bar that will bend the frame of my blaster before it breaks the mounts which he beefed up too. My dad makes them for a lot of my freinds that I ride with. How is the grab bar mounted to the 400ex is it like a blaster that bolts on? or does it require welding and stuff and if so what type of metal is it.

Well I dont want to get it welded, that would look stupid. but maybe getting mounts welded or bolted would be alot better.

The 400ex's grab bar is built into the sub-frame which sucks.

PRM makes a kit to cut off the factor grab bar, and lets you add any of there various grab-bars (desert, six-pack, etc..)

Here is a review that was sent in of the six-pack rack on a 400EX..

It looks like a great setup, as long as you do it right :)

Here it is mounted.
I was able to bolt it on after I drilled thru the bars. It could have been welded on just as well:

Well I dont like the look of the six pack racks, and do not want to spend big bucks getting one welded on. How much would it cost to get a new sub frame ?

thanx for ur help

PRM makes several different styles of grab bar that bolt on, after you have the tabs welded on your subframe..

It shouldn't cost you more than $10 to have the tabs welded on..

A new Honda subframe is ~$125 if memory serves..

leo,i had to have mine replaced and honda said 175-200 but i convinced them it was a factory defect cause the rubber gromets that hold the front of the seat broke off.

An AC Bolt on version. No cutting, no welding and it's a 6 pack rack. It will take a beating too. SLB400ex in this forum has one and it took a shot from a 300EX that slammed in to it. No problems. Plus it looks good too, which is always a must.
